A question for all you Parrotheads...
Hi, folks. While I enjoy hearing Jimmy Buffet, I don't know his music nearly well enough to consider myself a true fan. But last night on the radio I heard "One Particular Harbor" and I wanted to ask what is being sung/chanted at the beginning and end of the song. Is it Hawaiian? Can you give me the words and also the translation to them? Thanks!

Okay, I don't know how to do a hyperlink here, but here's a site with a translation:

As I recall, this is Tahitian. One of my favorite songs of all time!

I LOVE Jimmy!!! Especially his song "One Particular Harbor"!! I always listen to his CD's religiously about a month before vacation - it always gets me pumped up!!!
I saw him perform at the MGM here in Vegas in 2004. It was AWESOME!!

Thanks, IRabbit. I checked out the link. Do you have any idea how authentic the lyrics are?
Or does anybody else?
I rather like this song a lot, though I felt a bit sheepish this morning when I realized that the magazine Caribbean Travel & Life was using this Buffett title for a section on cruise ship ports. I've been reading that mag for a few years and never put it together with that song. Yeesh!

Ejcrowe, I'm guessing they're authentic. Buffet also does a credible job with Spanish and Portuguese, at least to my ears. (I am, admittedly, a single language speaker.) We're staying at a St. John Villa with the same name this year (not based on song title, I'm not *that* huge a fan, lol) so I guess the song is pretty well known and liked.
