Thanks for all the info.

I guess I'm in need of some educatin'

I need info on Hawaii.

Just surfing the net I have not seen a resort where the rooms have open balconies, where the rooms are close to a beach (like in the Carib). I see many large multi-storied hotels that have 400 or more very typical rooms.

If Hawaii is so great...where should I look? Why is the weather better in Hawaii in July/Aug than in Carib?

Thanks to all - in advance.

Of all the islands we have traveled to over the years our favorite remains the Big Island of Hawaii. Even the luaus are more authentic. The Kohala District on the B.I. has fabulous hotels, however we stayed at a small property on hawaiian sacred grounds in Kona--the Keauhou Beach Resort now run by Ohana I believe.
I would personally combine a 10 day trip to the Big Island and Maui and you will have experienced the most gorgeous islands possible.
Tour the Volcanos National Park on the Big Island and Mt. Haleakala (sp?) in Maui. Flight time between islands is short.
Dont' waste your time on Oahu with the touristy Waikiki.

My personal opinion is that Hawaii is not as humid and buggy in the summer. There is a chance of hurricane and lots of rain even though the season doesn't officially start until August. The tradewinds in Hawaii generally keep it at 80-85 degrees all year round and very little rain in the summer.

If it's really beautiful pools you're seeking in Hawaii, look no further than the Grand Wailea or Kea Lani on Maui! Yes, these are very large resorts, and the rooms are not that close to the beach, but the total experience of each place is sublime. Ditto the recommendation of the Four Seasons on the Big Island, but not so much on Maui because of the POOLS you're so concerned about (pool at 4S Maui not so great, although a GREAT resort just the same).

Closer to home, the new Four Seasons on Great Exuma in the Bahamas might be open by then, which would be a very good alternative (many nice pools, looks very nice!).
