Winnipeg airport?

The Winnipeg airport terminal was state-of-the-art when built in the early 1960s. It is now hopelessly outdated, crowded and cramped, inadequate waiting rooms, minimal services. A new terminal is under construction, due to open in 2010, which should solve all this.
I've not heard of any Canadian airlines making any cutbacks there. No idea what Northwest might be planning.

Hi all,
Topping this thread because Holldoll asked a question I'm curious about.
I'm flying LGA-ORD-YWG, and reverse on the return. Wondering if I'll pass through immigration at ORD. If so, then I'll never make my connection at ORD within an hour (and a change in terminal!)
Which brings up another beef of mine - how are airlines allowed to sell tickets like this? GRRR!!!

On arrival in Winnipeg from ORD, you will clear Canadian Immigration and Customs.
On departure you will preclear US Customs and immigration in Winnipeg, just like Calgary, Toronto Montreal etc...
.
So no worries about having to do anything in Chicago. You just get off the plane and go to the next gate..

Thank you Raquel! I'm so happy to know that I pre clear US Customs & Immigration in Winnipeg. I've flown all over, but never Canada to the US before.
As for not worrying about anything in Chicago, quite the opposite. Worry about your luggage making your flight! Mine didn't and I was without luggage for 2 whole days! Yikes!
On the other hand, I got a beautiful dress out of it that I would otherwise never have looked for or purchased while on the road...
