Will be visiting Whistle, in July for 5 days. My hubby will be in a conference for 3/5 of those days, so
* I am looking for something to do during the day. I am somewhat adventurous, in a risk free, safety first, kind of way.
* Also ideas for the 2 of us( and then a bit more adventurous) would be great too. * We want some R&R, but some adventure - and we are water people.

If you are coming up July 9, 10 & 11 there will be the Whistler Arts & Music festival going on that weekend. So there will be a lot happening in the village as well!

One nice and safe "adventure" would be to take the ski lifts up Blackcomb Mountain to the glacier where you can ski in mid-July, though you needn't ski if you only want to take the trip up and down. The lift tickets can be purchased at the foot of the mountain and probably in the major hotels. The views are incredible and the trip up and down is great fun. Take a medium weight jacket because while the temp at the bottom may be 75F, it'll drop to the 40's at the glacier,and the wind can also cut right through you. There's a snack shop at the top where you can buy hot coffee, tea, or cocoa to warm up. Lots of other fun things to occupy your visit.

You should try the new zip trek. It is getting rave reviews, and isn't a dangerous sport. Also, consider renting a canoe or kayaks, and floating down the River of Golden Dreams. It is a slow liesurely float that takes a couple of hours. River rafting is also good, and a trip up the gondola will put you into some gorgeous hiking areas. Cheers, Al

We too will be in Whistler July 7 for 4 nights, then 4 nights in Vancouver with our kids. What's the arts and music festival like? And regarding the zip-trek - would you send a daring 13 year old on it? What about a risk-averse 10 year old (or his mother for that matter!!). Al, are there any particular river rafting companies/trips that you'd recommend for our family? Thanks!

The details of the arts and music festival aren't firmed up yet, as far as I know. The ziptrek, although I haven't tried it yet is getting rave reviews. They have had non athletic types and ages up to mid 80's try it. Go to www.ziptrek.com for more info. Wedge Rafting is good, but there are other choices too. Great feedback. Sounds like great ideas. We want to try to zip trek - but sounds scary. Better make sure our wills our done before we head across the country to go zipping....LOL
Any other suggestions> Been research on line now for a few weeks and have some good general ideas. What are your few must see restaurants......

Hi! Just got back from our big trip to Whistler. WOW! It was worth the drive from California! (Did Tofino too) Our favorite thing was taking the gondolo up and then hiking to Whistler Peak. There are lots of people walking up there! We got a two day pass to ride the gondola up and we did two different hikes. It was just breath-taking! Then sitting in the hot tub in the late afternoon just was the icing on the cake! Can't wait to go back!

Whistler Art and Music Festival is going to be huge.. they have a mainstage with cuban - latin - mariachi type groups. There are also groups of performers that will be walking around the village interacting with people. There will be fire dancers, people on stilts, and other entertainers. There is a comedy show at Millennium Place and a 17 venue ArtWalk opening on the Friday night.

they also will have a juggling workshop, craft area for kids, storeytelling and circus/acrobatic instruction. I think it will be amazing as long as the weather holds up!
