Which Place to Pick
We are planning a trip to CANADA in July or September with 7 months old baby. It will be 5 to 6 days trip and we are traveling from DC region. I wanted to know which of the following places would be good for first time traveler. Is it possible to visit any of the following two places in 5/6 days
1. Quebec City & Montreal
2. Victoria and Vancouver Island
Thanks in Advance!

Either would be good, but with only 5/6 days you should probably stick to Quebec/Montreal as it's closer to DC. It would take the better part of one day to fly from DC to Vancouver Island; and the return would be the same so there goes two days of your 5/6 days.

If you only have 5 or 6 days, then clearly Montréal and Québec City is the better choice, especially travelling with a baby. From DC to Victoria, you can expect to take at least 7 hours and change flights at least once (likely Toronto Vancouver or both where you will clear customs and immigration in both directions). You could also fly directly to Seattle and then make your way to Victoria by ferry but there are
other complications there.
On the other hand, it's short direct flight from DC to Montréal and you can travel from there to Québec City by train (about 2 hours).
To me, for less than a week it's a no-brainer.

Well, mvermani, are you guys wimps, or not?
Or, for that matter, people who hate the travelling part of travel, and just like the destination part?
Today I read that Toronto is getting large numbers of visitors for the weekend, coming from France, England, and other parts of Europe.
If they can cross the Atlantic for a weekend, you can travel to Vancouver for a week.
The question is, do you want to.
In favor of Monteal and Quebec City; lots of local festivals, Quebec City's 400th birthday party (something every day), the French flavor that makes it almost/sort of / partly like going overseas.
Gourmet food, boutique hotels, excellent art museums,...
Out west, you'll find yourself outdoors a whole lot more. Westcoast ocean water is very different from east coast water, especially around DC, Delaware, MAryland. More rugged, rocky, currenty (if that's a word) You've got real mountains and big boats and seals and whales to watch.
I've been to Montreal a million times, Quebec City a dozen times, and the visits all run together. Always pleasant, but lacking the spectacle of Vancouver.
As I type, a client is almost back in Toronto after two days each in CAlgary, Edmonton and Vancouver, and I expect he'll still be alive when the plane lands. Of course, he's not travelling with a baby.
You can drive to and from Montreal and still have time for a nice visit; impossible to drive to Vancouver. Flights: WAshington to Seattle, rent a car, Seattle to Washingon, or fly from Seattle to Vancouverand back. I'd recommend the car rentlal because the drive is nice and I'd rather clear US customs with a baby while seated in a comfortable car than standing in a four mile line at an airport.
