Where do I clear Customs?

I know if I have connecting flights from Canada to the US, I clear US customs on the Cdn side. For example, Vancouver > Ottawa > Boston. I have to get my luggage in Ottawa and clear US Customs there before proceeding to Boston.

If I'm travelling to Canada, where do I clear Cdn Customs? For example, Buffalo > OHare > Vancouver. Do I get my luggage at OHare and clear Cdn Customs, or do I collect my luggage in Vancouver and clear customs before leaving the airport?

I'm asking as I have to make 2 connections and some of them are only 60 mins long. I think that is enough time if I just have to transfer planes, however it won't be enough if I have to collect my bags and clear Cdn Customs. Yet I seem to recall I clear it at the arrival airport.

I fly all the time but suddenly am confused! Thx for any insights.

Enjoy-la!

You will clear customs in Vancouver. You will first go through immigration and clear there and then you proceed to the luggage area and collect your bag(s) and going through custtoms is pretty easy - a question or two and you are on your way (assuming you aren't bringing something you shouldn't!) If Vancouver is your final destination you just leave from there - if you are traveling on to a connecting flight there is a belt to put your luggage back on. Its not bad at all unless you arrived when two 747's arrive from the Orient or Europe.

Yes, you clear Canadian customs at the first Canadian arrival.

BUF-ORD-YVR: clear in Vancouver
BOS-YOW-YVR: clear in Ottawa
