Clearing customs & immigration to & from Portland, OR

My 15 year old son will be travelling (with hi Canadian passport) from Portland OR (where he is a resident) to Winnipeg, MB. Where will he clear customs & immigration on the way there, and on the way back? He will be connecting via Calgary, AB &/or Vancouver, BC. Thanks for your help!

Clear Canadian immigration and customs at point of entry (Calgary or Vancouver) on the way to Winnipeg.

Clear US immigration and customs at either Calgary or Vancouver on the way back.

Neither US nor Canada has passport control for departing passengers.

Thanks for your reply! I just have one question... If he has to connect through both Calgary and Vancouver, would he clear customs & immigration in Calgary or Vancouver? Thanks again...

If he's flying PDX-YVR-YYC-YWG, then immigration and customs both ways at YVR (Vancouver). As that's the point of entry for Canada on his way there. And on his way back, he'll pre-clear US immigration and customs at the Canadian airport before his flight to the US.

That's the last Canadian city, in his case Vancouver if he comes through YVR, or else Calgary if he uses the YYC-Seattle nonstop.
