The proposal requires an amendment to the Excise Tax Act. The announced date for the end of the rebate is April 1, 2007.
I suspect that there will be some serious lobbying against certain provisions of the proposed amendments, particularly those related to trade shows and conventions.
Interesting that the proposal calls for rebates to continue to apply for goods shipped out of the country but not to goods taken out of the country.

I think Tom is saying he will dispose of the purchase receipts properly, i.e. send them in for a rebate.
Just a hunch.
It is not quite like the new Atlanta Hawks joke. Seems like a guy could not make it to a Hawks game, so he put his 2 tickets under his windshield wiper blades in hopes someone would take them.
He came back to find 4 tickets rather than his original 2.
For those of you who do not follow the NBA, the Atlanta Hawks are one of the worst franchises ever in a city famous for poor franchises over the years.
True the Braves have been good for more than a decade, until this year, but I can recall when a crowd of 20,000 in a 50,000 seat stadium was cause for celebration; 5,000 was more the norm.
