thursdaysd - sorry about that I did think you were the OP but hopefully I was of help to both of you. Actually the Clipper is the best way to come to Victoria if you don't have a car and don't get seasick (actually the ride isn't bad at all but if its a windy day it can be rather bouncy). If you have any other questions just ask!!

tentek the ferry out of Anacortes is a very pretty way to go hopefully you will have a nice sunny day for your trip. Enjoy.

traveller69 - thanks. It looks like by mid-May I can take an afternoon Clipper which will get me to Victoria around the same time as the early morning train. A bit more expensive, but the morning in Seattle will be worth it.

Apparently Washington State ferries do not operate the Sydney route from January 1, 2012 until March 24, 2012. so I guess we are taking the Victoria Clipper.

I was there a zillion years ago, but the Museum (regional/natural history???) was fantastic. I guess there wouldn't be much point in going to the Buschart Gardens in January...

The Royal BC Museum is world class - not to be missed. Butchart Gardens is beautiful in any month - better is spring and summer but still worth a visit in January,

BTW, any need to buy tickets in advance for the Clipper, or can I just walk up day of travel?

Hope this isn't thread hijacking but I have a related question: for the Port Angeles Coho Ferry it looks like you can book a vehicle in advance, if you wanted to take your car across. But I'm unclear on this for the Anacortes ferry. Can you be guaranteed to get a vehicle on board? This would be for early August. Thanks.
