Victoria and Vancouver Island - locals restaurants
I'd like some recommendations on restaurants that the locals frequent for great good at a decent price. We don't need fancy places that over charge for the food or the decore. Sometimes the "dives" are the best! I'd like to avoid the touristy places if possible but is there is a great or unique restaurant not to be missed that's always good to know.
We like all types of food and will especially be looking for local seafood. We'll be getting a breakfast included at our Victoria hotel but if there is a really good breakfast place, please pass that along. Our plans are to venture out of Victoria to investigate the island so we have a car to get to around. One dessert that we can find locally is Baked Alaska - do you know of a place that makes a good Baked Alaska?
Thanks in advance for all replies!

Johns Place is a tradition in Victoria for breakfast

Bring a good appetite if you go there!
Berklins restaurant in Cordova Bay (about 20 mins from Victoria on the water) does their own version of Baked Alaska
http://www.beklens.ca/# Don't really know of any other restaurants serving it

We had great food everywhere 3 years ago. Point No Point and The Smokin Tuna stood out. The later is simply a cafe in a trailer park but offered the best fresh tuna I have ever tasted. It also had the added benefit of having a pet seal in the marina below.

One outstanding entry in that category is Sooke Harbour House : average food for insanely above average prices. We stayed over the road from the hotel and ate there once. Once was enough!

If you like Chinese food, Ocean Garden just at the gate where Chinatown begins is very good. We also like Golden Chopsticks on Fort Street, and for good dim sum, the restaurant in the basement at the Red Lion Inn on Douglas at Finlayson - it's called Jade Fountain, I think.
One of our favourites is Rebar, in Bastion Square. It's certainly well-known to tourists and can get a bit crowded at peak times but the food is wonderful and we find that it's worth the wait when there's a lineup.
Smokin Tuna, as mentioned above, is lovely. It's changed hands a few times, and menus have changed as well, but it's still amazingly good. You can watch the fishing charter boats pull up and the seals all come around for treats while the fish are being gutted.
