Vancouver hotel options
Well I've been searching for Vancouver accommodations, and for two nights in June ..
The one I really wanted to book the beachside B&B in North Vancouver just shut its doors this March. So now I don't know where to book.
I was looking ideally for something that showcases the beauty of B.C.'s coast or mountains that is still within 30 minutes of the city. I haven't been able to find anything else like this, except maybe the Thistle Inn (opinions on this?) But think I prefer to be closer to the coast (I think). Anybody know of anything that sounds remotely like this? By the way we will be driving into Vancouver from Whistler which is another reason North Vancouver was handy.
In Vancouver I am looking at the Granville Island Hotel. I know that there are ferries that go there from the mainland, but is there a road you can take to get there too? I wasn't sure.
I was thinking the granville would be a good place to wake up and explore, with the possibility of more exploration of Vancouver later in the day. The interior of the rooms themselves to not appeal to me that much, if we did stay there it would be more for the location then anything.
Otherwise I was looking at the Westin bayshore (for the views) the Wedgewood (becasue it gets such rave reviews) But the Westin looks kind of generic, and the Wedgewood looks a little stuffy. I just can't seem to find a great fit.
Also looking at a few B&B's like O'Canada, and the Camelot Inn (anybody ever stayed at the Camelot Inn before?)
I guess I really don't want to stay in a hectic downtown sky scraper neighborhood, I want to relax, take in the beauty, and also maybe explore fun little shops, and grab some coffee and walk around a little. I am not looking to see the entire city in a day. I just want to enjoy my time.
Also since we are turning from a rustic horseback adventure, an in room Jacuzzi or large soaker tub might be kind of nice, but not hugely important.
I think that pretty much covers it. Thanks for any suggestions you might have.

Stuffy is definitely not a word I'd apply to the Wedgewood; it's beautiful and cozy and friendly, albeit in an elegant and understated way. (My favorite hotel ever, except maybe for Hong Phat Ancient Lodging House, but that's not in Vancouver.)

Thanks for responding to my overly long post.
I was dissapointed to hear that about Granville since I was leaning in that direction. What is Granville "Island" like? I've read descriptions of it but can't tell how much is there, ect.
An area with little shops, boutiques, ect. Does that sound more like the West End then?
Maybe I will have to try the Wedgewood just to see what all the fuss is about. I don't think I have ever seen so many people so passionate about a hotel.
Also just came across the bay view B&B north of Stanley Park. Might look into that too.
Thanx.

Narrowed it down to
Lonsdale Quay Hotel
Granville Island Hotel
Wedgeworth hotel
Thanks for the Lonsdale Quay Hotel suggestion I had completely overlooked it.
Anybody ever stayed at the Granville, or the Lonsdale Quay?

cheriann, we were also considering the Wedgewood. It sounds beautiful. We will be traveling with our teenage daughter this summer and I just don't think the rooms would be large enough for three people. (Are there suites?)
We are considering the Fairmont Waterfront which looks really nice and in a good location. If you stay at the Wedgewood, please post about your stay! ***kim***

For a first or second time visitor to Vancouver, I personally wouldn't recommend either the Lonsdale Quay Hotel or Granville Island Hotel.
Let me say at the outset that I haven't stayed in either, and visited a friend's room at the GI Hotel a zillion years ago.
Both locales are great for being on the water (although very different water "action" in front of them), and are in fun neighbourhoods. The Lower Lonsdale area, where the Lonsdale Quay Hotel is located, is rapidly being gentrified, which brings mostly good things for visitors. The GI area is a tad more touristy, but I lived for a couple of years a stone's throw away and really enjoyed the neighbourhood.
Both locales require commuting to the downtown core, whether by Seabus, Aqua Bus, bus or on foot.
My own preference for a first visit in a new city is to lodge in the midst of things, and for that reason I'd opt for one of the hotels or B&B's downtown.
I was born in Vancouver, lived there 'til 15 years ago and now live a short ferry hop away, but I still arrange weekends downtown for my city fix. I'm a fan of the Westin Bayshore but I'd be happy at the Wedgewood (very!), the Sutton, Pan Pacific or Waterfront.
Anyway... my two cents.
