Here are two prior threads that discussed getting from the airport to downtown:

There is no direct subway ( but there should be!) from Toronto Pearson to downtown. There is Porter airline that flies to Toronto Islands Airport( downtown/city centre)so maybe you can do that.
When I fly into To I always do a "Pre-Arranged" limo. You cld also do taxi or hotel shuttle or bus/subway to downtown.

No real need to pre-arrange. All taxis and limos are required to charge a set-rate to and from the airport. Downtown costs between $40-$45 in a regular sized, 4 door vehicle.
Just follow the signs in the airport to the official taxi/limo pick-up area. There will be plenty to choose from.
The airport rates are set by the city, btw. Every taxi and limo will have them clearly posted inside the vehicle.
There is also a shuttle bus that makes stops along the way and ultimately ends at the Royal York (basically Union Station). I've never taken the shuttle bus myself, I think it costs about $15 or $20. IMO the convenience of a taxi or limo more than justifies the (reasonable) expense.

Correction- if not pre-arranged, the cost of a taxi is actually a little more, between $45-$50 for downtown.
I always pre-arrange on the way to the airport, but don't on the way back.
Here is a page with info and offical rates from the greater toronto airport authority:

If you really want the cheapest way from the airport to downtown, and don't have a lot of luggage, a bus-subway combo works just fine.
There are TTC / Toronto Transit Commission bus stops in front of each of the three terminals at the airport.
Several buses on different routes stop at them.
You can take a bus from the airport to the Kipling subway, and then take the subewway from the Kipling station to St. George, and change to another subway to get downtown. Or stay ont he first subway two more stops, and change to get downtown.
Under $3 per person, and allow about an hour. (cash fare used to be $2.75 and I think it still is)
I take this fairly often to visit a client near the airport, and it's not a bad route, outside of rush hour.
