Taxi in Vancouver.
Could you tell me how hard or easy it will be to get a taxi after we've disembarked from our Alaska cruise? Going to Sutton Place Hotel. Will it be a madhouse?
Also, how much should we expect to spend to take a taxi to the airport from the hotel. (four people)
Thanks, Lou

Taxi line-ups can be epic when you disembark, sometimes an hour's wait standing in line.
The Sutton Place Hotel is a 15 minute walk away from Canada Place, so the distance is tiny... but not necessarily a walk you'd want to do dragging suitcases up sidewalks full of pedestrians.
Expect the taxi to cost $25 give or take. It's a 20 minute drive.

Uh ... Carmanah, if the cruise arrives at Ballantine Pier, I agree that a 20-minute drive in traffic is in the cards. But from Canada Place, even wtih bumper to bumper traffic, that would be a really bad day.
Bottom line is, coming from Canada Place, if the line is long and you're ambulatory, walk.

littlemountain,
I was referring to the second question that jacylou asked:
"How much should we expect to spend to take a taxi to the airport from the hotel"
Answer? 20 minutes.
A taxi from Canada Place to Sutton Place takes 2-5 minutes.
A taxi from Ballentyne to Sutton Place takes 10? Less than 10?

Thanks, again, Carmanah!
I wonder if we could call a taxi company as we're getting off the ship and ask them to pick us up?
Sure would beat standing in line!
(Could just use a transfer from the Holland America, but I hate to pay for four transfers!)

I don't think calling a taxi would be any faster as all the taxis are in that massive line-up. There's one road in, one road out, so I doubt any taxi that you'd call would be able to bypass that line.
One technique you could try is to walk up to the main street level and walk a block or two away from Canada Place. There are bound to be taxis driving around on the street that you could flag.

Hi Carmanah!
Good solution! Thanks so much for all the advise.
Can't wait to be back in your beautiful city. We'll be there the middle of September. Fall should just be starting.
Good luck to you in your travels. Lou
