Stay in the forest?
We will be in the Alberta Rockies in May 2003. We are doing an organised tour for 8 days and then we have a week to do as we like. Being Australian and used to our bush we would like to stay in a forest, in a cabin, with a real wood-burning fireplace. There is only the 2 of us, but we need a place with linen, towels, doonas etc. We would prefer a somewhat isolated location, preferably near Banff as we will fly out of Calgary. We will be hiring a car. Please help.

Skoki Lodge sounds like the place for you. It is at Lake Louise, a scenic 12 km hike up a mountain trail. (Lake Louise is not far from Banff). In winter, you can also ski in. It has a lovely chalet, with fireplaces and oil lamps, plus great food. You get in touch with them via the Lake Louise Ski Area tel. 403-522-3555. The address iskoki Lodge, PO Box 5,Lake Louise, AB, Canada T0L1E0

Try Tunnel Mountain on the outskirts of Banff. Deer up to your door, and you stay in small condos with a bedroom in the loft. Small Kitchen and another bedroom on the main level. Balcony out back where the deer have figured out that they can get food. Rustic, peaceful, very nice. Spent a Christmas there a few years ago.
