Rockies Accommadation
In April next year my husband and I will be driving through thr Rockies from Calgary to Vancouver, some of our accommadation has been planned but do need some help for the following places.
We are looking for perhaps motel or reasonably priced hotel, or would welcome other suggestions.
We need an overnight in or around Edmonton
An overnight in Jasper
Two nights in Canmore
Overnight in Kamloops
and an overnight in Whistler.
If anyone can help we would be grateful and perhaps if there is a email address that would be great. Thank you

jasper - the sawridge or the jasper inn are middle of the road
in edmonton - could you tell us where you are coming from and where your going the next day. it's a big city so need to know which area. are you just sleeping and leaving or are you visiting anything here?
canmore - there have been several suggestions on this board. do a search and you should get many results.

Thanks for the reply, we are coming from Calgary, allowing for a short stop in Drumheller, should arrive late afternoon,We planned to visit THE Mall but are open to suggestions, and then we plan to drive to Jasper, so only that one night unfortunately.

I'm just a bit confused by your itinerary - or maybe it isn't really your itinerary. You do know that Whistler is not "en route" to Vancouver when you are heading west over the mountains, right?
It is a separate destination, north of Vancouver, on a different highway.
Or perhaps you know that and just included it in your list of places you need accomodations for.
I can't really vouch for any places on the west side of Edmonton, but that's where I'd suggest you stay. Since you plan to go to the mall, that side of town is most convenient for you to also get on the road to Jasper.
Kamloops is full of motel/hotel-type places - it's very popular for stopping over on the way to the coast - but since we always drive straight through I can't recommend any particular spot.

I'm also confused by your itinerary. Are you driving north from Calgary to Edmonton and then to Jasper, Kamloops and Vancouver? If so, how does Canmore fit into this picture?
Or are you driving north to Edmonton from Calgary, then west to Jasper, then south again on the Icefield Parkway and east to Canmore, before doubling back and heading west again to Kamloops and then Vancouver??
As for accommodation - West Edmonton Mall (WEM) in Edmonton has a hotel attached to it - you may want to check the rates (I'm not sure what you consider "reasonable", but accommodation in Edmonton is relatively inexpensive compared to the rates in the mountain parks).
Fantasyland Hotel might be just what you are looking for - it's on the southwest corner of WEM, and has the additional advantage of being a 5 to 10 minute drive from the highway heading west to Jasper (the Yellowhead = highway 16). There is also a fairly new motel right across the street from WEM called West Edmonton Mall Inn - might be worth a try.
Mind you, if I had to stay in a hotel in Edmonton, I would choose to stay downtown at the Fairmont Hotel MacDonald which has a nice view of the river valley.
In Jasper you really can't go wrong - it's an international tourist destination so most accommodation is at least average and it is upgraded constantly.
The two websites that I've listed below should help you get a start on your search - at least you will be able to link to some of the motels and take a "virtual look" at some possibilites!!

Good luck!!

if it's within the budget, staying at the fantasyland hotel is very convenient. if you want to shop more then your husband, he can just return to the room or vis versa. plenty of restaurants on "bourban street" in the mall. if you are coming in from the south, it is very convenient to get to and when leaving for jasper, again easy. they have theme rooms and standard rooms. around $100+.

Hello Sheba1,
If your question about the Rosedale in the Vancouver thread is indicative of your price range, I think the Fantasyland may be too steep. I think a hotel that would be more comparable with the Rosedale in price would be the Executive Royal Inn West Edmonton. One that looks a bit cheaper than that is one that already has been mentioned, the West Edmonton Mall Inn. (I have not stayed at either of them myself.)
You can get a 1-bedroom apartment at the Rocky Mountain Ski Lodge in Canmore for around $85/night. I'm sure Borealis would be willing to vouch for the RMSL.
You could consider staying in Lake Louise instead of Canmore. In April you could get into a standard double room in the Lake Louise Inn for C$90. You don't want to know what Lake Louise's prices are like in the summer. The April rates are very reasonable by comparison. Lake Louise is more centrally situated than Canmore is with respect to the mountain scenery, but it's up to you.
I've never stayed in Kamloops, but an Internet search suggests that April prices in that town are reasonable. It looks as if you can get a 3-star hotel in the C$70 - C$80 range.
Whistler looks as if it would set you back at least C$125/night up to C$140/night for a 3-star hotel. Some of Whistler's hotels also stipulate minimum stays of anywhere from 2 to 5 nights.

Judy is right - the Rocky Mountain Ski Lodge in Canmore is a clean, comfortable, and very affordable place to stay. The one bedroon units have a separate bedroom with a queen sized bed, and a small kitchen that opens up into the living room area. It has two drawbacks - the first that it is very basic in terms of furnishings (by that I mean not fancy or posh), and it is located on "motel row" in Canmore, easy to find, but not much of a view, on a busy street. However, it is across the street from a restaurant (Sage Bistro) where we had a very pleasant dinner one evening during our stay last February. I would definitely stay there again.
The suggestion of the Executive Royal Inn West Edmonton is very good; although I have never stayed there (I live in Edmonton), I did have an opportunity to see the rooms (during a visit with out-of-town friends), and again, the rooms are fairly spacious and clean but basic in terms of furnishings (usual motor hotel type arrangements).
Hope this gives you a bit more information.
