Restaurants in Vancouver & Victoria

I'll be traveling to downtown Vancouver & Victoria solo in late July/August, and would love some suggestions of where to eat that is moderately priced and relatively comfortable for a solo traveler. (I know, many of you will eat anywhere whether you're solo or not, but I'm not well practiced in it yet!) I've done some searching, but many of the recommendations I found were either a few years old or for pricier restaurants than I'd like.

Budget: in Victoria, "moderately priced" for me means a dinner for $20 or less, excluding alcohol. In Vancouver, I'll be with work, and my dinner allowance is up to $30. I'm anticipating lunches that are more fast casual, as I'll be busy sightseeing in Victoria and busy with a conference in Vancouver. (The conference is at the convention centre, so recommendations for quick lunches near there would be great.) I'm staying at Marketa's on Superior in Victoria and the Blue Horizon on Robson in Vancouver.

Cuisine - I don't usually go for Asian, and Indian is definitely out. I won't eat seafood every day, but wouldn't mind having it a time or two. A cafe or informal restaurant is generally more my speed than white tablecloth places. However, if there is a nicer place that would work in my budget, I'm open to it! Thanks in advance for your help!

For breakfast or lunch, try the Blue Fox on Fort. Food is reasonably priced and very good. More of a cafe, luncheonette type place and definitely not high end. Service is extremely polite and friendly. Also, liked the White Heather, a tearoom, but lots of variety, and not expensive, but may need reservations or at least call ahead and see if they have space. Again, very friendly and pleasant and the food is very good. If you are the least bit into vegan food, then try Green Cuisine in the Marketplace. Not high on ambiance, but food is good, amazingly creative, and very reasonable. These three readily come to mind, if I recall more from my trip last year, I will post again.

Thanks so much, annetti! I'll check those out. I'm not vegan or vegetarian, but I don't object to vegan food either!

So for Victoria:

Definitely breakfast at John's place or Floyds - but expect a bit of a wait.

For seafood Ferris' Oyster Bar is much more reasonably priced then other places.

Dinners - Sauce - yates, The reef - yates(if you are up for carribbean food), Browns social house On douglas is fairly goos as well and very reasonable.

For a really quick on the go lunch - italian food imports on blanshard has amazing sandwiches

It wont be hard to find meals under $20 in Victoria, there is lots of selection just avoid the really touristy places like the empress or chandlers and your budget will be fine!

Thanks, kimellis! Those sound great, especially the Italian place. I think I'm covered on breakfast in Victoria, as it comes with the price of my room at Marketa's.

Any suggestions for Vancouver?

In Victoriam, I love Rebar. It's mostly vegetarian, but they do serve salmon.
