Quebec City - Please help me chose one more place to have a great dinner.

Because of many recommendations on this board we decided to have two dinners in these restaurants
Le Mesculin
L'Initial
However, we have one more night for dining out and would like to find another charming place with unforgattable food. We wouldn't mind having one dinner in less expensive place.
Thanks for your help.

Hi Gina-
One suggestion for that third night. If you like mussels Restaurant Primavera on Rue St. Louis has an all-you-can-eat special which was very reasonable...and delicious.

Gina,
We really enjoyed dinner at Le Mesclun as well as L'ardoise. L'ardoise is Michelin rated and not expensive. Many locals dine here.
L'ardoise is located in lower town.
Address: 71, rue Saint-Paul
Telephone: (418) 694-0213
Casual attire; reservations a must (it's a tiny restaurant).
Bon Appetit!

L'Ardoise is great--especially if you're into mussels, salads, etc. With wine, tax and tip about $CDN 80.If you've any money left, you should really try A la Bastille:Chex Bahuaud on Rue Ste Genevieve. Four our money, the best resto in Quebec City. Try the tasting menu, and sit either outdoors overlooking the koi pool, or at the bay window table inside. $CDN 125 and up, depending on wine choice, and worth every penny. And it's close--a ten minute walk from the Chateau and twenty minutes max from Lower Town on the most scenic urban walk in Canada.
Thank you David, Elaine and Howard for your recommendations.
L'Ardoise sounds interesting?
We will be staying at the Dominion hotel. Do you know where is this restaurant located in relation to our hotel? Can we just walk there in the evening?

Any other ideas?

We stayed at the Dominion several weeks ago. Both Mesculin and Ardoise are directly across the street from the hotel: one minute tops.

We really liked Mesculin, thought it our best meal in QC, maybe better than Toque in Montreal which was also great.

Gina,

We've stayed at Domionion twice; it's a fabulous hotel! You can actually see Le Mesclun from the hotel; it's directly across the street from Dominion. L'Ardoise is about one-half block and around the corner from Hotel Dominion.
I agree w/linda: Le Mesclun cuisine one of the best of any restaurant (anywhere). If you're staying at Dominion, the concierge can make your dinner reservations (sometimes getting a better table or time than if you phone yourself).
Have a wonderful vacation!

Hi Gina! On the opposite side from where you are staying in Old Quebec City is a restaurant called Le Continental. We just dined there a couple of weeks ago and loved it. Not cheap, and certainly along the lines of a dining experience. Lots of dishes prepared flambe at the table, etc. It is located a few doors down from the Chateau Frontenac. Enjoy your trip.

We just got back from Quebec where we dined at the Continental, A La Bastille and L'Initial. If doing it again, I would skip L'Initial and Continental and try something else. A La Bastille is worth a second visit. None were inexpensive, although L'Initial was the most expensive and, in our opinion, the least bang for the buck. Continental food was good but the ambiance was noisy and not relaxing, but it was a Sat. night. We heard good things about Laurie Raphael but it was closed the nights we were there.

If you want an unforgettable meal and a beautiful cozy setting I'd go to the Marie Clarisse on Rue Petit Champlain.
However, if you want to economize on the 3rd day, the I agree with the earlier post about Le Primavera. Sorry didn't try the restaurant across from Dominion, so can't compare. Have fun!

Agree with the Marie Clarrise suggestion. It is reasonably priced and excellent cuisine.

Thank you again for your generous posts.
We will be there for my birthday in the end of September and I will let you know whether we enjoyed these places as much as you did. We will keep our previous choices
Le Mesculin
L'Initial (regardless of one negative comment)
and I will take a list of the places you recommended and we chose one when we are there.
Thanks
Hi Gina - I posted a similar question to yours this past spring and followed David's advice and lunched at A la Bastille: Chez Bahaud. We would never have found this spot without his recommendation and we so very glad to have sought it out - lovely, old fashioned service and top rate food. We also loved both Le Mesculun and L'Initial - enjoy!

Hi Gina: Just returned from Quebec. A La Bastile was the best restaurant I found. On 47 St Geneveive close to the Citadel. You won't regret it. Also enjoyed Cafe DuMond

I was in Quebec City in August.
A la Bastille in the upper city was very enjoyable- it specializes in seafood and has an imaginative menu and attentive service. And thank you, David, like other persons who have written, I would never have tried the place without your recommendation.

St. Amour in the upper city has a winter garden room- excellent food and for chocoholics- very chocolaty chef-prepared desserts.

Another interesting place is the Aviatics Club in the Train Station-
it seems less touristy than other places.

You have talked about dinners, but you may wish to have lunch at one of the special restaurants- three courses, great food, and great prices.

We just returned from Q.C. a few days ago. I'd agree with the recommendations for L'Ardoise if you want a less expensive meal and bistro-type atmosphere. We discovered it after arriving in the evening on a Thursday, strolled over on our way from the Hotel Dominion. It was very good. If you are willing to spend more money and have a more elegant evening, you should check out Le Saint Amour on Rue St. Ursule in the upper town. It isn't cheap but the service, atmosphere, and most importantly, the food, were all top notch. They have a website, too, www.saint-amour.com.
