Planning Honeymoon LL/Jasper/Banff

My fiance and I are planning our August Honeymoon to the Canadian Rockies. We have 8 days, 7 nights and are on a medium budget. Tenatively booked accomodations: 4 nights @ Post Hotel in LL, 2 nights @ Pyramid Lake Resort in Jasper and 1 night @ High Country Inn in Banff. We heard the drive from LL to Jasper was not to be missed.

We love the outdoors (hiking, horseback-riding, rafting, etc. But would also like our time there to be romantic and relaxing. Please let me know of any recommendations that you have - Accomodation, dining, activities - any help is much appreciated.

Thank you!

Your accomadations are great.
When driving the icefields parkway (from LL to Jasper), stop at the columbia icefields and walk on the glacier.Or better yet, take a guided tour.
In Jasper, dont miss Athabasca falls, and take a hike down the Maligne Canyon.
The mount Edith Cavell hike is very beautiful as well.
In Banff, dine at the Buffalo Mountain Lodge.Jasper is kind of short of real good restaurants, but the Fiddle River restaurant is very good. I have stayed at the Pyramid lake resort- you can rent canoes there and the scenery is spectacular. I have not tried thier dining room, but the resort itself is very nice, so the dining room is probably a pretty good bet.
enjoy!

Congratulations on choosing such a wonderful and memorable place to spend your honeymoon. The choice of the Post Hotel is an excellent - I guarantee that you won't be disappointed. If possible, try to book a dinner at the Emerald Lake Lodge during your time there...secluded, elegant and well worth the drive.

You have, unfortunately, picked the busiest time of year for us, and you will find all of the places you have chosen to visit somewhat crowded during August. Make sure to pull over at Peyto Lake on the Icefields Parkway drive to Jasper and take a walk. Avoid those tour-buses and just hit the trail! The bears won't bite y'a ;o)

Enjoy!

What a great honeymoon you have planned - my husband and I just spent our anniversary in Jasper and Banff last July.

I heard repeatedly that the drive to Jasper was unbelievable, yet as high as my expectations were, they were surpassed tenfold - it is outstanding - just give your self time (and lots of film) to enjoy the drive, and you MUST pull off at Peyto Lake - it is SOOOO spectacular - if you were just dropped off there, you'd have no idea where you are. The Columbia Icefield is also interesting - makes you a firm beleiver in global warming!

AS a previous post said, Athabasca Falls is very impressive, as is Maligne Canyon - the power of the waterfalls is amazing. Be sure to drive from Jasper to Maligne Lake - on the drive there, you'll come to Medicine Lake which is also beautiful.

Enjoy the trip, and good luck with the wedding
