Ottawa Restaurant

My husband and I will be in Ottawa for a wedding in early May and are looking for some restaurant recommendations. We are looking for a nice place with great food.

We have been to Domus and Beckta and while we enjoy both very much, we were hoping to perhaps try somewhere we have not been. Any ideas?

We often go to Le Panaché, 201 rue Eddy in Gatineau. They have an very interesting menu, French fusion, and the presentation is well done. Not pretentious and very affordable.

Our favorite, specially in early May, is Les Fougères, where we always take our out of town guest. Here is a link to there menu: http://www.fougeres.ca/hws/fougeresSplash.htm

Bon appétit.

Yes I agree with Curiousx. Signatures is a remarkable restaurant, actually it is one of the top five tables in Canada. As part of the Cordon Bleu parisian cooking school, the menu and the service is impeccable. I particularly suggest the dégustation menu of 9 services, of small portion of course. Here is the link to their website. (P.S. I think le Métro closed a while ago)

lucky luc, Le Metro is still open. It moved from its old location on Bank Street to a new home on Somerset Street but that was more than a few years ago. I'm going there this evening.

Oh! pardon, you are so right, I must have been thinking of an other one. Bon appétit for this evening.

Have you try Arôme at the Hilton in Hull? Very pleasant atmosphere. The grilled meat and the seafood are both delicious.

An other old favorite is L'échelle de Jacod in Aylmer.

Do you have a favorite Italian, we usally go to La Roma or La Strada but we would like a change.

I have not tried Arome but will add it to the list!

L'Echelle de Jacob and Panache are old favourites. I've been to La Strada couple of times and enjoyed it but am not a huge fan. Haven't been to La Roma since they moved (how long ago awas that!).

Lately I've enjoyed very good italian food at, wait for it, Flying Piggy's. I like Giovanni's a lot too.

If you want a real change, Anna's offers excellent Thai food and the new Secret Garden is Thai vegetarian...really good.

Getting hungry now...

Signatures is certainly the best restaurant in Ottawa and the Outaouais, although Le Baccara at the Casino in Hull is close. If you haven't been, then certainly try it out. It's not inexpensive, but for the food and service is worth every cent.

You might also consider a new restuarant, Ambiente, on Beechwood in New Edinburgh. It's on the site of the old Trattoria Zingaro. but the restaurant has been totally redone. We dined there a couple of months ago and the meal, service, and "ambience" were outstanding.

I also like Juniper, but haven't been there recently.

If you want to go a bit outside town, try Les Fougères in Chelsea.

yeah I agree with Laverendry. Regarding Le Baccara, though, I just don't like Casinos and though the one in Hull started out upscape, it (the casino not the restaurant) seems to be getting tackier each time I am there (admittedly not very often).
