NYC to Nova Scotia

Has anyone driven from New York to Nova Scotia? I am wondering how long it takes to get to St. John New Brunswick. And how long you need to be at the ferry before it take off, not sure of the nautical term for "take off"!
Also has anyone heard of a share a ride site?

Depends where in NS: I would not choose to drive all the way to the Maine-NB border if I were heading to western NS. I have taken the Bar Harbour- Yarmouth hydrofoil ferry and was very satisfied...Though I feel guilty about the right whales, who reportedly get clipped every so often by the high-speed hydrofoil.

Thanks for getting back to me. I am going about 1/2 from Digby. Any idea how long it would take to drive?

We used to drive to Nova Scotia from NY in the winter when the ferrys weren't running. From Westchester county it would take 9 hours to the border at Calais Maine, then about another hour to St. John. To Halifax, it would take another 5 hours from the border.
