Nova Scotia Honeymoon advice needed

My fiancé and I will be flying into Halifax on August 21 for our honeymoon. We only have one week as we will be flying back to Toronto on August 28th

We want to see all of Nova Scotia but don't want to rush it. So we are trying to decide between spending a couple days in Halifax and going north to Cape Breton or spending a couple days in Halifax and going south to see Lununberg and the Bay of Fundy.

We want to go whale watching, kayaking, bicycling, enjoy scenic drives and some mild hiking. We also want to enjoy nice restaurants and maybe some live music at night. We are used to busy, active traveling, but this will be our honeymoon so we want to make sure that it's relaxing as well.

Any suggestions? Cape Breton or Bay of Fundy? If we do cape Breton, do you suggest staying at a couple of different places along the Cabot trail or just staying somewhere central and doing day trips. Also, hotel and any other advice is welcome and appreciated.

Thank you!

Ali

HI there!

Sorry nobody has replied yet.

I love the idea of Nova Scotia for a honeymoon...

and I would most definitely focus on Cape Breton if I were you.

A "normal" itinerary for 'a week in Nova Scotia' lets one travel at a break-neck pace and see a lot, but if you use Cape Breton as the centerpiece... and then maaaaaaybe add-in a couple of things before and after, that would be sufficient for a honeymoon.

I think I would begin by studying the area of <b>Baddeck, NS</b> as a general 'base' from which to <I>anchor</i> your Cape Breton experience...

Maybe the 1st night in/near Halifax

And nights 2 and 3 in Baddeck.

The 4th night, go ahead, and target a spot on the Cabot Trail...

driving the <I>rest of</i> the trail the next day.

(yet perhaps the standard idea of Baddeck as a base, and covering the Cabot Trail in one round-trip day from there, is still best... )

Among the most awesome <b>nature views</b> in the whole area is <U>Hopewell Cape, New Brunswick</u>... and so that is MY instinct for a <I>target</i> once you've covered Cape Breton to some degree.

(but heck, maybe the <I>honeymoon</i> move is to just STAY the whole time on Cape Breton)

Yet <b>IF</b> one were going to head toward Hopewell Cape, it seems quite the haul for one (honeymoon) day... so maybe a night in between, at perhaps <b>Pictou, NS</b> might be sensible.

(so that would be night #5, perhaps)

Then, either before or after getting to <b>Hopewell Cape, NB</b>, a night in/near Moncton, NB seems convenient.

On the path back to Halifax, <b>IF there is sufficient time</b>... go from Amherst, NS to Parrsboro, NS and drive on the pleasant highway #2 along the shore of the Bay of Fundy.

The problem is, the <I>moving around</i> part of my itinerary here doesn't afford you <b>enough</b> time for the very sensible things you'd like to do... so once again, because it is a honeymoon, MAY-be Cape Breton alone IS the right move.

(at any rate, I have responded to lots of posts about NS, so if you click on my name and scroll down/back, you can at least collect many more detailed ideas.)

No matter what, print-out the tide times for at least 3 spots in the Bay of Fundy, for the ENTIRE window of your time in the area (just in case) and carry it with you.

(Definitely use Truro, and Hopewell Cape among the few locations for which you'd print-out the tide times)

I just returned from Nova Scotia. You would have time to do Cape Breton and see the Bay of Fundy. We went to Lunenberg but did not think it was so special. We loved Cape Breton. Stay at the Keltic Lodge in Ingonish for a few days. It was great. Stay in the lodge in a water view room if you can get one. Dinner in the Thistle room was outstanding. It is a beautiful honeymoon spot as it is on a peninsula and you are surrounded by water. There is a hike right there called the Middlehead hike. If you are driving around the trail do the Skyline trail hike. It is near Cheticamp. It is about 6 miles but it is more of a path so it is not too challenging. We saw a moose on the trail. The view is outstanding, probably the best view you will see. We stayed in Cheticamp at Ocean View Motel and Cottages ( I think). The website doesn't make the rooms look too appealing but it was very clean and had wonderful ocean and sunset views. We stayed in a cottage which was very nice. For one night it was fine. Make sure you stop at Inverness beach. They have a beautiful Boardwalk. On your drive back to Halifax take the road by the bay and go yo Burntcoat Head park. The drive itself shows a lot of the bay. At the park you can walk on the ocean floor ( check the tide schedule). It was really cool. You could then drive back to Halifax for your last night. Enjoy your honeymoon.

PS - don't drive to New Brunswick on this trip. Too much driving. We drove both sides of the bay and I do not think the Parsboro side is any prettier than the Burntcoat Park side and it is a lot more driving.
