Niagra on the lake B&Bs
Hi, we're headed to the Shaw festival in October and are looking for accomodations, preferably less than $125 USD per night. We like the charming and personal aspects of a B&B but definitely want our privacy as well. We would like to be a short walk from the theaters/downtown. Do you recommend picking one of the vintage B&Bs in the town center? I am otherwise overwhelmed by the choices listed after doing a search at www.niagraonthelake.com. If I choose a vintage B&B, that narrows it down. Any suggestions? Most of the recommendations I found by doing a search in this forum (Cranberry, Roger Harrison, etc.) are already booked. ANY advice is welcome, this is our first trip to NOTL. We've been to Stratford and loved it there. Thanks!

We booked the Old Bank Inn for about $135 USD for late Sept. It seems to be a cross between a small inn and a B&B. It was recommended by another Fodorite. There were a few for less, enter "Niagara on the Lake" in your favorite search engine - there a couple of websites with exhaustive listings and websites.

It's unfortunate that the B&Bs are so expensive. We stayed at The Doctor's House and my fiance paid but from what I understand it was reasonable compared to some. It's an old house on the main street, a short walk to the theatres, shopping and dining. The bathroom was shared but our room was lovely and comfortable. The breakfast was to die for! Mmmmm! The owners are also lovely people. I believe they only have 2 or 3 rooms so it is quite private!

If you do not mind a short drive, I love the Stamford Village B&B. There are two rooms at $100 and one (with a jacuzzi) at $150. The hosts are delightful and the breakfasts yummy.
The B&B rooms are thoroughly modern and private. The hosts built an addition onto their house especially to create a private atmosphere for the guests.
I have stayed at this B&B twice and would not hesitate to reserve a room again if my travels should take me to the area. The website is

Stamford is outside Niagara Falls and about 15-20 minutes from NOTL. Once you figure it out, parking in NOTL is no problem even at the height of the season. If you are willing to walk about 2-3 blocks, there is plenty of nonmetered parking. I did not find staying in Stamford to be an inconvenience even though my main purpose was to attend plays at the Shaw when you consider the amount saved.
I do agree that the B&B's in NOTL are outrageous, but you need to consider that the season there is relatively short and after summer is over the hosts do not easily fill up their beds.
