New Years/hotels in toronto
thinking about a 2-3 day trip to Toronto with a few families for New Year's Eve. There will be several kids, ages from 7-16. Can anyone recommend any hotels in Toronto which have indoor pools, decent location, that would be appropriate. We want to avoid hotels that sell most of their rooms in conjuction with big adult new year's parties. Also, what activities could we find on New Year's Eve that we could do with our kids. Does Toronto do a first Night celebration that many cities in the US do? Thanks for your advice.

Toronto's First Night celebration centers on City Hall which is across from the Sheraton, and the Marriott Eaton Center. If you got a room overlooking the City Hall (and its skating rink) you would have the flexibility of either being down with the crowd or watching from your room. Another hotel with the kids activities is the Delta Chelsea Inn which is about 7? blocks from City Hall. We usually do an early movie, casual dinner (Italian or Chinese) and then on to the Celebration. Do you have a price range in mind for the hotel?

The Colony (which has just completed a major renovation and facelift) and The Metropolitan are both directly behind City Hall, and the Hilton (the one on Richmond at University) is only one parking lot away from City Hall. The Hilton pool is an indoor-outdoor combination that works in the winter, and kids love it. At least mine did twenty years ago. Can't comment on pools at the other hotels.

BAK

It's true that there's a huge crowd in City Hall Square on New Year's Eve, but my understanding is that the First Night stuff is quite varied and elaborate, ranging from early-evening kids' activities to concerts in various venues all over the city. Seems to me it's centred more at the St. Lawrence Market; I'm not absolutely sure, but I believe the City Hall Square stuff isn't directly connected with First Night.

Last poster is correct...City Hall New Years Eve is run by the city. A local TV station, City-TV plays host and broadcasts it live. The skating rink is a nice touch and they rent skates (not cheap but not outrageous).

First Night is held a numerous locations and is modeled after other First Nights.

Hotels such as Sheraton, Hilton, Delta Chelsea will have mix of adults and families. Sheraton would be nice if you get room overlooking City Hall.
