Nearest ski resort to Vancouver in January.
We are planning a trip which will include a week on the West Coast flying into Vancouver. Can anyone give me some guidance in regard to whether I should aim at early january or late January. Any suggestions for a Ski resort that is easily accessible from Vancouver. We are intermediate skiers.

I can only speek for Whistler (I have no experience with Vancouver mountains). After new year it does not make a big difference, if you ski early or late January. Maybe you have some more daylight end of Januray. I know, that Whistler offers skipsecials during January and you can have some savings if you choose the specials. Take a look on www.whistlerblackcomb.com
It might also be an advantage to ski during mid week, as the weekends can be more busy, but Whistler has ssuch wide mountains, that I would not expect to many people there (mountain restaurants can be busy).
FYI: There is also a small skiing area on Vancouver Island.

Whistler is very close to Vancouver. It is served by bus & train from Vancouver. You can also reach Whistler with a rental car. It is also possible to fly in to Whistler by heli-service (& charter plan service) from Vancouver. Take a look under www.tourismwhistler.com (getting here)

There is a regular sceduled Bus Service from YVR, (Vancouver Airport), to Whistler. I don't even think reservations are necessary - just ask where the Whistler bus is after you collect your luggage. You can check them out at www.perimeterbus.com. It's about 3 hours from YVR to Whistler.

Whistler-Blackcomb has more than double the terrain of Sunshine, and a great pedestrian only village at the base.
Our favorite place to stay in Whistler is the Pan Pacific, a 30 foot walk from the Blackcomb gondola.
