montreal recently

just returned from 4 days in Montreal. Stayed at le hotel de place d'armes. HUGE room, great bath with rain shower and jacuzzi, terrific location, accomodating staff.

visited contemporary art museum ( just ok ) and happened upon a limited, 3 day exhibit ( Japanese/Canadian ) at Bonsecours Marche ( outstanding collection of artwork ).

must say, however, that the highlight was the lighted lantern display at the Botantical Garden......such fun.

what a wonderful walking city, can't wait to return someday.

Just back from Montreal myself and the Lantern Festival was a highlight of our trip as well.

Did you have any treatments at the Rain Spa in the Place D'armes?

no, i didn't avail myself of any of the spa treatments, but enjoyed the hotel-supplied shower gel, bath salts, body lotion, etc. they were "pepperminty" and refreshing.

We had a room in the wing away from the bar area, so no noise problem. All in all, the hotel was great and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

people were very friendly almost everywhere....except for the small restaurant on St. Denis which included gratuity and then accepted our "mistaken" tip on top of that, just not very nice.

The magnificent weather and cleanliness were contributors to a very pleasurable experience. A beautiful city.

Not many restaurants include service in mtl.

i don't remember the name, but it was an attractive, small italian restaurant on St. Denis. I wouldn't want to misidentify it, so this is just a heads-up to spend some time examining the bill. We were initially surprised by two separate taxes on purchases, and I think that it contributed to our confusion.

most restaurants were fun and enjoyable, however........we had a good time/dinner at Modavie, listening to jazz.
