Sorry, glsebs, if this is too late for you, but - we ate at L'Initiale and Laurie Raphael for our two dinners. Both were lovely experiences, on the order of upscale restaurants in most large American Cities. The food made use of local specialites, like lamb and seafood, and the presentation was beautiful and creative. Both had excellent, warm and friendly service.
We enjoyed Laurie Raphael a bit more, though, as the atmosphere is a little less formal; the food combinations are a little more experimental, there, though. Both ran about $70-75CAN per person before tax/tip, and we got glasses of wine, not a bottle, as we couldn't agree on color.
If you are going to Ile D'Orleans while you are in Quebec, would highly recommend Auberge La Goelich for lunch. Beautiful view overlooking water, excellent food.
Da Emma in Montreal, is a treat. It's on the edge of the old section, and the Italian food is well prepared and presented. Very friendly service but a little confused the night we were there.
