Hello Dick,
Heven't stayed there (I live in Edmonton so there really hasn't been any need!!), but have walked past it very often. It is a small hotel with a very "modern" facade and lobby (straight lines, stone floor etc., polished surfaces). The hotel part above the lobby is set at an angle to the street (like a square twisted 45 degrees on top of another square). It looks quite nice.
The hotel is right on Whyte Avenue (Old Strathcona), so there are a lot of restaurants and shops just outside the hotel door, and hence lots of pedestrian traffic.
It is close enough to the University of Alberta that part of their advertising is to encourage visiting speakers and academics to stay there.

we actually just went to look at a room there. i think we saw the suite. bedroom looked nice, bathroom was large and living room was nice but fairly small for anymore then 2 people. the only thing i didn't like is the couch - it was a leather (or similar)which i don't like.

ltt - did you happen to notice the view? I was thinking that the rooms facing north on the upper floors might have a good view towards the river valley and downtown (city centre skyline).
(BTW, the leather couch would match the "modern & clean" lines of the decor in the lobby).
