Hotels in Vancouver

Please suggest quiet, moderately priced hotels near the Pacific Coliseum. Thanks.

The only hotel that is near the Coliseum is the Holiday Inn. It is on a major road...and I have no idea how much it is...but it IS on a main transit line to downtown...so that's a bonus.

Here's the link.

If you have a car, I would suggest the Accent Inn in Burnaby (http://www.accentinns.com/burnaby). It is 4 km away, which will take all of 10 minutes by car.

When you look at a map the Accent Inn appears very close to the highway, but it's just off the main road on a pretty quiet street - much quieter than any of the hotels you'll find on Hastings Street.

Pacific Coliseum is on the grounds of the PNE, and is just 4 miles from central Vancouver - a straight shot down East Hastings Street.

The next closest motel/hotels to the large PNE grounds might be farther east along East Hastings, just across the Hwy #1, not far from "Boundary Road".

IF you are driving into town, your alternatives include using Priceline.com to land a room in the "Coquitlam-Burnaby region", while hoping that hotel parking doesn't add a staggering charge. (in that area you'd be reasonably near to the PNE grounds) (although PNE parking is some staggering cost near to $10, so I can see wanting to be within walking distance)

IF you used Priceline for a room in the downtown core, the parking charges there can reach $30 or $40 a night!!! (it wouldn't be majorly inconvenient to use the city bus out East Hastings to for the 4-mile bus trip to the PNE grounds)

SO, parking is likely to be a pain in the wallet, BUT you can shop around and pay full price for a room, and maaaaaaaaaaaybe find one with free parking.

I dunno... if it were me, maybe the relative value of staying downtown at a reduced room rate via Priceline, for a 4-star hotel, AND biting the bullet for (/expecting) something like $40 per night for parking... MIGHT outweigh rolling the dice out in the hinterlands, for what could be a higher base room rate, and only praying for free parking.

In some areas you can play the tiresome game of parking on the street, but the costs there are somewhat significant, and you have to get up EARLY to feed the meter.

Maybe we could give more clarity if we knew a bit more about your visit?

I can highly recommend the Holiday Inn Express which is an easy walk from the Pacific Coliseum. I have stayed there on many occasions and it is all you would need. They have a very good breakfast that is free, a pub next door, a very good family style restaurant across the street as well as chinese food restaurants etc. To me, this is the only place to stay if you are attending an event at the Coliseum!!
p.s. they have on site underground parking

Thanks all for your helpful suggestions - Amygirl: do you know if the underground parking at Holiday Inn is free? northwest is helpful in informing me that hotel parking can be a gouging experience...coming into town for the Pearl Jam concert Sept.25 at the Coliseum...any other ideas?

My wife and I have stayed at both of the HI Hostels in Vancouver. IMHO this is the better of the 2. http://www.hihostels.com/dba/hostels...-011016.en.htm
They have dorms and private rooms for 2-3 people. Even have breakfast and WiFi.

Somebody took me to the chinese restaurant across from the Holiday Inn Express a few years back, and it was awesome! (not that this should come as any surprise)

(and so now that we perceive that you are driving, AND for understanding the kind of crowd you'll be a part of, I'd suggest that the location and CONVENIENCE of that Holiday Inn Express would be very useful to you!! But, given the circumstances, you'd better book in a hurry if inclined to stay there on the concert weekend)
