Hotels in Niagara or NOTL
Looking for recommendations for a nice but affordable (less than $200/night) hotel in Niagara Falls or NOTL. This will be a special anniversary weekend but we don't have as much money as many of the posters on this site seem to have!
Other preferred features would be a hotel (not a B&B unless very private), within walking distance to attractions, and obviously... nice rooms. Something a bit beyond HoJo or the like.
We've been there quite a bit but still haven't found the perfect spot. In NOTL we've stayed at the Olde Angel Inn (absolutely hated it), the Colonel Butler Inn (very nice but far from downtown), and another one I can't even remember.
In NF we've stayed at a few chain hotels - which were expensive for what we got, imo!
Looking for hidden treasures that we may not have yet discovered to make our weekend a special one.
Thanks for any suggestions.

It isn't right in NOTL, but it is between NOTL and Niagara Falls. I liked the Stamford Village B&B that I just booked it again to see a few plays at the Shaw. This B&B is a special addition put on to an historic home and is very private; there is even a separate lounge for guests. The upstairs room has a jacuzzi. So, if you are looking for something special and romantic, I would recommend the room with the jacuzzi. It is about 20 minutes from NOTL and 15 minutes from the Falls (maybe less).
Here is the website:

I stayed downstairs (no jacuzzi, but that was not a priority for me). The breakfasts are to die for. Ask for the blueberry scones. Yum!
This is what I would call a deluxe B&B. I just have been recommending it all over the net after last summer. I do not know the rate on the jacuzzi room but the other rooms are under $100 a night Canadian.

Check out the South Landing Inn (they have a website) in Queenston (about mid-way between NOTL and The Falls). Looks like a motel from the outside, but the rooms are country inn gorgeous and comfortable (many with fireplaces and/or jacuzzis). Our favorite rooms are the ones on the end with private porches (filled with wicker furniture) and a glimpse of the river. From there, you can walk to the Queenston Heights People Mover Stop and ride to The Falls (you need passes once there anyway, and this precludes paying to park and walk at The Falls). It's also just a short ride to NOTL.

Hubby and I were just there a few weeks ago and we were very impressed with the Courtyard Marriott. For a 189.00 package deal, we got a large kingbed/jacuzzi/fireplace room...quite nice for 2 nights, 2 fantastic breakfast buffets each and a 50.00 credit at the Keg (or TGI's or Sparks). It is within walking distance to everything or you can take the shuttle. We walked everywhere. Parking is free and you can request a fridge, also free of charge. A great deal and we are pretty fussy.

Pillar and Post and Queen's Landing are great recommendations for NOTL, but I doubt that their rooms will be under $200/night for a WE. (Pillar and Post is the only place with a pool; both indoor and outdoor if that makes a difference. And Pillar and Post has a fabulous spa; I would prefer it over Queen's Landing for these reasons.)
Check into the Cranberry House B&B in NOTL. It's one of the nicer ones off the main street right near the heart of the village ... you can walk to everything. Accomodations are great. It's a Victorian style house, however it is very updated, the accommodations are top-notch, and the people running the place are very nice. It will definitely be more affordable than P&P or QL.
Another place that is fun to stay in NOTL (and probably lower priced than P&P and QL) is The Oban Inn. It also has a good location, altough a slight bit farther walking to the center of the town than Cranberry House. They have a great bar/lounge that usually is fun to hang out in.
I would definitely recommend staying in NOTL over NF, which is only a 20-30 minute drive up the parkway along a beautiful drive along the river gorge.
