Hotel for Romantic Weekend in QC

I am planning a weekend getaway for July 4th weekend in Quebec City for my wife and me (kids off to camp). Having never been there, I'm relying heavily on this board, which has proven to be so helpful in planning other trips. I'm looking for a romantic hotel that is well-located. I've narrowed the hotel choices down to two - the Chateau Frontenac and Auberge St. Antoine. While the Chateau Frontenac is obviously a landmark, our experiences with landmark hotels (The Plaza in NY, other Fairmonts) have been mixed - age, huge variability in room size and quality, unnecessary traffic. The Auberge St. Antoine, on the other hand, seems to get consistent raves. I'd appreciate feedback from you, as well as other hotels of similar caliber that I may have overlooked.

My experience with landmark hotels is similar to yours. I would choose the Auberge St. Antoine. I haven't stayed there, but a friend was here with her boyfriend last week and stayed at the Auberge St. Antoine. They were very happy with the hotel and staff.

we just returned from QC. It is quite romantic and was a wonderful trip. Dining experiences - we had many good but some highlights include Cafe du Paris (romantic), Le Cafe Du Monde (great views), and Les Freres De La Cote (atmosphere). Feel free to e-mail if you want more info - [email protected]

Have a great trip!

Thanks, everyone. I think we've definitively ruled out the Chateau Frontenac and will probably go with the Auberge St. Antoine. I'll let you know how it goes.
