Can anyone tell me more about this Hampton Inn in downtown Vancouver--how is it for location? I have read tripadvisor reviews-any comments?

I haven't stayed there, but Robson Street is quite central to downtown Vancouver.

Could anyone give me suggestions about where they would stay for a centrally located hotel in Vancouver. I'm looking for a nice place where my mother and I can get around fairly easily, feel safe.

I am also thinking about the Marriott Pinnacle in Vancouver--which would be a better overall location--Marriott or the Hampton Inn? Thanks.

Hi I've stayed at the Delta suites on W. Hasting. It is on bus routes and 3 blocks from sky train and very reasonably priced. Also a short taxi ride or walk to great restaurants and sites. The rooms are very clean and modern.

The Marriot Pinnacle is probably a little more out of the way, not much - maybe 2-3 blocks from Robson Street and shopping, etc. But it is a very nice hotel as well.

Both the Hampton Inn and the Marriott are in downtown Vancouver, but a few blocks away from a major shopping strip of retail stores.

I'd probably prefer staying at the Hampton Inn because you're equally close to all the shops and restaurants on Robson as you are to all the shop and restaurants in Yaletown. The Hampton Inn is surrounded by other hotels as well such as the Westin Grand, the Rosedale on Robson, etc.

The Marriott is located several blocks and down the hill from Robson in the financial area. As a result, it gets awfully quiet and vacant-feeling in that area after business hours. That isn't to say that it's not safe - it's just that in its immediate vicinity are many, many office buildings and the immediate area caters to office workers. However, the Marriott is a shorter walk away to Stanley Park, so it's really just a matter of picking one or the other.

The bottom line is, both are located in downtown Vancouver, therefore, both are central. As long as you're in downtown Vancouver, you're always a short walk or a short cab ride away from anything else in downtown Vancouver.

I am doing this trip with my 80 year old mother-who gets along very well.
Even so, I really want a place with a good location, that is bustling a good part of the time, and also very nice.A balcony would be great-but a nice view would do too. Should I be looking anywhere else? Where would you stay in my situation?

I'd probably look into staying at the Pacific Palisades, which are right on Robson Street, in the heart of where everything is going on. I had friends stay there 2 summers ago and they have a beautiful view from their balcony. If you're looking south, you'd have a view of the sunset over English Bay. If you're looking north, you'd see the mountains and Coal Harbour.
