Grocery Store in downtown Vancouver

Hello,
We are staying at the Hyatt Regency the day before our cruise and I wanted to know if there are any grocery stores or some places where we can purchase soda and snacks to bring on the ship with us. Names and locations would be greatly appreciated. Thank you ezmark

There is a food court with drink and sandwich stands, etc. right underneath your hotel in what is known as the Royal Centre.

There is also a grocery store called the IGA Marketplace on Burrard Street at Smithe Street, just a couple of blocks south of your hotel.

My recollection os that there's a lot of easy to get food on cruise ships. Included with the fare.

What kind of a cruise is so poorly provisioned that you'll need *snacks* to see you through those long lonely hours between meals?

LOL!!!

Isn't one of the claims to fame of a cruise the (over-)abundant food? Anyone I know who's been on one talks about how much food there was and how hard it is not to gain weight!
I think you'll probably get better food on board than soda and snacks like chips, etc. And if that's what you prefer, then I'd bet the ship has it.

In ezmark's defense I should say that ships do charge for soft drinks, about $1.50US) and so having a couple of large bottles in your room saves not just the money but also the inconvenience of having to order by roomservice it or go to the restaurant to bring it to your room.

The IGA is probably the most convenient suggestion.

Two others, further away: Walk west on Robson Street for about 7 blocks. On the north side of the street at Bidwell, you will see a Capers, which tends to be a yuppy, natural-foods store. Lots of nice treats here.

Walk another block on Robson and on the south side of the street, you will see a conventional Safeway.

Wow what a tough crowd
Thank you GaryA for coming to my defense! I did not think I had to SPELL IT OUT, but it seems I do for some others out there. Yes cruises do offer way too much food. Hubby and I don't drink coffee but yes we need caffeine to get going in the morning and yes that is why we would like to bring some soda so we can keep it in our room and not have to wait for room service. While I don't mind spending money on a cruise I would rather spend it in the casino or getting a massage and not drinking my $$$ away And since others seem so concerned about the mention of snacks, since we are doing low-carb it's easier to have some pistachios or cashews in our room as an alternative to breakfast as well as a quick snack as we don't want to go crazy on the cruise.

ezmark, I've never been on a cruise but I completely understand the desire to take some of your own food. I always take my own food on plane trips, no matter how short or long (I do know that plane food is not the same as cruise food). So don't feel intimidated by these other posters!

Willtravel is right: the IGA is probably the best bet (a little pricey, but convenient location and a good selection). If you're more interested in nuts, dried fruit and non-sugary drinks, try Caper's as well. As Willtravel says, it's about a fifteen or twenty minute walk from your hotel and will take you along Robson Street, a delightful stroll in itself. The address of Caper's is 1675 Robson, on the north side of Robson, between Cardero and Bidwell.

Have a great cruise and hope you enjoy Vancouver!
