I will be in downtown Toronto (near the convention center) at the end of August. Could you recomend nearby locations where I can access Canada Census and related information?

Nothing specific, but you probably will find that doing a Google search, such as "Toronto" + "genealogy", will give you a quick answer to your question.

Try the Latter Day Saints churches in the area. They have all kinds of geneaological archives. In the city I live in, they have 2 nights per week where visitors can look stuff up. Also try the public library and the library at U of T.

I tried the LDS church in my community. They sat me down at a computer and sent me to internet sites I had already visited.

What I am hoping to find are things that are not online. Such as the recently released 1906 census or other census that have only an index online, not the entries.

The Ontario Archives is located on Grenville St. in TO. I don't know if they have census info, but they may be able to point you in the right direction. My friend found out a lot of info there, but it was Ontario info. Here is a link to their website http://www.archives.gov.on.ca/

The North York Public Library has a "Canadiana Collection". Go to the Toronto Public Library website and it will guide you to the North York branch. It will list the extensive holdings available.Well worth the trip but check their hours as I believe they are closed on Mondays.
As mentioned in JJDaves' posting, some census images are available online as well.
