I am surprised to read that there is another person on this planet who has heard of Gagetown.

You do realize that Saint John is only an hour from Fredericton? You should really only stay in either F'ton or Saint John. I am not even sure if Gagetown is big enough to have a hotel.

Ah yes. And the army base was put there because?
1. It has the most scenic location in all of North America.
2. It has the greatest historical qualities in all of North America.
3. It has the greatest museums and art galleries of North America.
4. It has the biggest Gage of all of North America.
Sorry, been there and left burning rubber.

I don't think a base, is put anywhere because of historical or cultureal aspects. This base was put there because NB has tons of woodland that is not being used. It is a large area, with hills, streams, fields, etc. NB has very cold winters, very hot summers. This training base is supposed to be so good because the land is diverse, and temperatures could reach the same thing the men may face in the real battles.

Exactly my point Mellisa. Where best to recreate hell on earth. For my next vacation, Afganistan with a side trip to Kuwait.

Hi there. Been to Gagetown twice, the last two Augusts. First thing you should know-- there are TWO GAGETOWNS. First is a very small village with maybe a b&b to stay at. Second is the DND training area. It's the largest in all of NATO. Immense. Not located here for any reasons of any interest to tourists. Nearest place to stay here is actually OROMOCTO, which has a small hotel/motel which is really dumpy, from what I've heard. Oromocto is very close to the base. However, note that Fredericton is only a c.10 min drive away. Both times I went, my fiancee was training at Gagetown, and we stayed at the Fredericton Inn, a very reasonable and nice hotel in Fredericton. It is really easy to find and along the same calibre as a holiday inn, w/o the expense of the brand name. Oromocto isn't exactly... well, I wouldn't stay there. Gagetown village is, well... you blink and you miss it.

Hope this helps.
