Fun in Toronto for 3 year old?+Plus sizes for women.

HI!
I will be visiting Toronto within a few days with my three year old child. Any advice on really interesting places to see?I can't rely on what I've been reading on some sites becauseI don't want to waste time setting out to places I've read about, only to find them dull and limited to say the least.
Does anyone know if there's a Lane Bryant in Toronto? If not are there any other plus sizes stores?Any factory outlets?
Thanks fodorians!!
Momy, In Toronto there is a store called Toni +. They have great designer clothes for plus size women. They also have a outlet store somewhere in the city. I'm not sure where it is located but if you call one of their stores I'm sure they can point you in the right direction.

If you're looking for a place that sells plus sizes, try Penningtons. They have stores across the country, 6 in the city. Go to www.penningtons.com to check out styles and addresses. When checking for locations, Toronto refers to the central area of the city, Etobicoke, North York and Scarborough refer to the west-, north-, and east-end of the city depending on where you are staying.

Factory Outlets are located outside of the city. The closest being in Mississauga, just west of Toronto. Dixie Outlet Mall is located at Dixie and the QEW highway. If you're not driving, take the TTC (red bus) to either Sherway Gardens and transfer to Mississauga Transit (orange bus) route 4 from Monday to Saturday, or to Long Branch and transfer to MT route 5 all week. The trip will require a double fare of $2.25. If you spend less than two hours at the mall, you can use your Mississauga transfer (ask for one when you board) back to Toronto. A cheaper and faster way to get there without a car is to take the suburban GO Transit. Purchase a 2-way ticket at Union Station for $7.50 to Dixie Station. See if the driver will let you off on Dixie Rd. rather than at the station itself as it is quite a walk, especially with a child. Cross Dixie and wait at the bus stop that faces toward the railway overpass. Flash your GO ticket to the driver and pay 50 cents, and ask for a transfer. If you can make it back before the time posted on your transfer, it's a free return trip, if not, it's another 50 cents. Take the route 5 that says to L. Branch and get off at Dixie Outlet Mall.
This is the only outlet mall that you can get to on public transit. All the others (Cookstown, Niagara Falls, etc.) require a car.

As for finding something to do, with World Youth Day in town until the weekend, things are going to be overly busy in and around town. Otherwise, a trip to the Toronto Islands should keep the two of you happy. Read the posting "Just returned from Niagara Falls & Toronto" and scroll down to where the Islands are discussed. There are plenty of rides and a petting zoo for youngsters and the young at heart. Also the beaches with a view of the city across the harbour are also nice.

A stroll along the Harbourfront before or after the trip to the Islands is also recommended. Start at the Ferry Terminal and head west. Plenty of activities and shows (most free) to see and do, most notably at the Harbourfront Centre at Queens Quay and Simcoe. Check inside for scheduled events.

I hope this helps and that you both enjoy your trip!

3 year olds like the Children"s own Museum at the Museum subway stop, and they like the nearby park, behind the Chapters book store on Bloor Street, just a block fromthe museum.

They like the Centerville Amusement park, and the Ferry ride to get there. Centerville is on Center island, in the harbor.

They like the kid's department in the Chapters store, too.

BAK

Hi,
Check out the Hockey Hall of Fame, it has a lot of interactive games etc. Also Toronto has an awesome zoo. It is vast though so if you go, ride the zoomobile - well worth $5 CDN. Also for dinner check out Shopsey's TV City where junior can play video games.

Momy, another store to look into is called Reitman's. They actually own Pennington's. Reitman's is a Canadian women's clothing store and many of their stores carry a Plus size department called "Encore". I know this because I work at Reitman's part time when I'm not at university. Honestly, their clothing is some of the most affordable... in the store where I work (which is actually on the other side of the country in BC), is nearby the border, and we're always having a lot of Americans come in and shop.

Their website is www.reitmans.ca - they're bound to have multiple locations around Toronto. Hope this helps!

Another plus size chain: Cotton Ginny Plus. They sometimes have the "plus" clothes combined with the regular sizes in one store, and sometimes in a separate store. Mostly casual type clothes, emphasis on comfort, very reasonable prices. There's one in most malls.

The big department stores (The Bay, Sears, and Zellers) also have separate lines of plus-size clothing with varying degrees of quality and price (Bay is highest price, Sears in the middle, Zellers is lowest end).
