Dining In Calgary

My mother and I will be in Calgary a few days next month for the Spruce Meadows Masters. I'm in the process of researching and trying to find reasonably priced ($10-$20 CAD entrees) restaurants in downtown Calgary.

My mom's a picky eater, so I'm trying to stick with restaurants that serve traditional North American cuisine. She is also disabled, so another part of my criteria is that the restaurants be within 5 or 6 blocks of our hotel (Palliser). I've done some research on my own and narrowed it down to a few that sound up our alley:

Saltlik (Menu looked good, but no prices were listed)
Milestone's
Murrietta's
Earl's
Oriental House (She'll eat "Americanized" Chinese)

Obviously, not gourmet choices , but as long as the food is reasonably priced and tastes good, we'll be happy.

Any input on the above restaurants or any new suggestions would be appreciated.

If you stuck on that price range then you need to drop a couple of your choices, Saltlik and Muriettas. Also Muriettas is on the second level of a building but there is an elevator to get you up there. Milestones and Earls will fit the criteria.

Agree with what Cruiseryyc said.

Here are some other possible choices:

James Joyce (Irish pub)
114 - 8th Avenue SW
$10 - $15 range

Teatro (Northern Italian -- don't know if that's acceptable)
113 - 8th Avenue SW
$15 - $20

Mother Tucker's Food Experience (steakhouse)
345 - 10th Avenue SW
$10 - $15
I have not eaten at Mother Tucker's in ages, so cannot comment on its current standards.

Buzzards Restaurant and Bar (cowboy cuisine, including steaks)
140 - 10th Avenue SW
$15 - $20

Judy when was the last time you ate at Teatro? I haven't seen a $15 - $20 entree there since the 1980's.

Add to the current list:

Siding Cafe -- kitty corner from the Hyatt in the Arts Central Building on 7th Avenue

Avenue Diner -- on the 8th Avenue mall

Yeah, you're right, hydra. Teatro has a couple of pasta dishes in the $20 range, but most of its main courses are in the $30 - $40 range, and the rack of lamb is somewhere in the mid $50s. I was tired and got careless. I should have said that you could squeeze into Teatro in the $20 range, but you'd have a very limited selection at that price. Thanks for catching that.

Siding Cafe and Avenue Diner are good suggestions.

Murrieta's is outside of the stated price range, but I find its portions huge. When we go there, my husband and I share a main course.

There are a number of cafes on 1st Street SW, between 9th Avenue and 8th Avenue. That's kitty corner from the Palliser. They would be good places to have breakfast.

Thank you all so much for your help. I'm sorry to take so long to respond, but I'm usually not online on weekends.

I checked all of your suggestions and they are excellent. The restaurants that you've recommended have simple dishes that will appeal to her and more adventurous dishes for me and that's exactly what I was looking for.

Thanks again. I hope that Calgary is warmer this time than it was when I visited two Septembers ago.
