Cheap Eats

Will be in Old City Quebec mid October. What are some very reasonably priced but good places for a lunch or dinner. By cheap, I mean not more than $10-15 dollars for dinner and $5-7 dollars for lunch. Or don't these places exist in Quebec and I don't want a McDonalds thank you.

H-m-m-m, don't mean to "pluie" on your parade, but that is a REALLY tight budget for the rather glamourous 'old town' in the height of the fall colour tourist season.

I think you may have to settle for the French Onion soup or pea soups that many of the bars serve with a drink or find a source of poutine (a great concoction of chips, gravy and cheese curds)and eat as you wander round.

You shouldn't have a problem. As with any touristy city, there are many options for pizza, pasta, crepes, etc. There are several creperies in the old city that are pretty good if you are on a budget. Also, there is always Le Commensal, a vegetarian cafeteria that offers a very interesting mix of ethnic foods in a pleasant atmosphere.

We're just back from our Canada tour and we found that a very fine and healthy lunch can be bought at the many Tim Hortons eateries they have there.Paul

I think the coffee sucks at Tim Hortons (although many people like it), but I agree it's pretty good for sandwiches, etc.
