For SMCGOWN I have just booked a room in Pictou at the Evening Sail B&B. It got a four star rating and was highly recommended in TripAdvisor. We are staying three nights in Igonish at the Seascape Coastal Retreat which also had glowing reviews. It is not cheap but private oceanfront cottages(10 in all) all quite new and breakfast is provided plus a seafood hors d' is delivered to your room each afternoon. Has its own restaurant, with lots of seafood and sounds pretty good as well. Seascape would certainly fill all your needs.
Now when we leave Ingonish we have two nights left--one of which we will spend near Lunenburg (our last night) and one yet to be decided between Ingonish and Lunenbur. Any suggestions out there?

Reeder: wine is about the same price in Canada as the US for good wines (over $15 a bottle) and a little less in US in Canada for less expensive brands.
For example: Yellowtail Shiraz, in Nova Scotia, has just gone up to $12 a bottle (Cdn) , but can be purchased in the US for $6-10 (US).
But having said that there are restrictions on liquor and tobacco products that are explained in detail on the CAT.(or if you need to know more in advance, try Googling the Customs for your specific circumstance.

Thanks LJ! Now I need help with the Dundee area. I thought if I could find a good place for me to stay my husband could play golf there. The Dundee Resort which has had lukewarm reviews is totally booked that day--for two weddings--so it might be a good thing they are booked. Anyone stayed in a great place in or near Dundee?

Remember to post a trip report on your return. Especially the accommodations you liked/didn't like and the restaurants you enjoyed. It's been several years since our last visit to the area, we're planning another trip ourselves next year (5th visit) and would love to hear "your" updated recommendations! (Cape Breton and elsewhere in the province).

Not sure what accommodations are close to Dundee but if your husband likes golf, check out Bell Bay in Baddeck.
As for bringing wine into Canada, I haven't travelled on the CAT so not sure what is available in terms of duty free? Usually when you cross the border there are duty free shops and you can pick up a few bargains there.

Will definately write that report providing I get to go. Got another "bad" phone call from my doctor yesterday over blood work this week. All will be decided on Tuesday when next batch of blood results are in. I was so excited just yesterday researching, planning, anticipating and now all this feels like a bummer. Pray for good news on Tuesday. We are supposed to leave on Thursday.

Hi, Reeder! I have not read this entire post but sounds as if you have had some health issues. Hope everything is ok. Have a wonderful time in Cape Breton especially Ingonish...make sure to get somebody @ Keltic Lodge or @ The Highlands Golf course to show you the way out to John Doyle's & also Middlehead. Looking fwd to your report!
