Wow! Who knew there were so many restaurants in Lake Louise!?

Last September I had two dinners at the Station House Restaurant, and one at the Outpost Pub in the Post Hotel.

I enjoyed both a lot.

The Outpost is very casual, small and cosy, and the Station House, as its name implies, is the old train station house, the oldest building in Lake Louise, and very atmospheric.

Both restaurants had a nice variety of casual food, friendly service and atmosphere.

I think there must be fancier places, if that's what you're looking for. I think the more formal restaurant in The Post House is only for guests. Don't know about the restaurant(s) in The Fairmont LL.

I wanted to try Deer Lodge, which seemed to have a nice menu, but couldn't get a reservation on my last night.

I think the Station House is a nice choice because of its history. JMO.

Oops, forgot, The Lake Moraine Lodge restaurant also looked lovely but it's a bit of a drive - maybe 20 minutes or so - on a winding road from Lake Louise, which might be a factor in the dark and if you want to drink wine.

I think the fancier restaurant at the Post Hotel is open to anyone - you just have to get reservations. Which isn't always easy, from what I understand.

The Fairmont Lake Louise has several restaurants, but they can be very hard to reservations for if you aren't staying there. Non guests are placed on a wait list, and they will call you as late as 5pm on the day of to let you know if there is room. I found the system a bit frustrating, especially since there seems to be no central reservation system for the restaurants, so if there's no space in one, then you have to contact the other restaurants separately.

I also really liked the Outpost - good, hearty food with some German dishes (I think the owners are German). There is also a restaurant/pub at the Lake Louise Inn.

Another place with simple, but hearty food is Bill Petyo's Cafe at the Lake Louise Hostel.

Deer Lodge actually has a main dining room and less formal bar area. The latter is actual nice as you can order from the dining room menu or the simpler/cheaper bar menu. It's not huge, so I can see there being no space on a busy weekend, but during the week, I'd think you easily be able to get a table.
