Trying to find accomodations in Banff for three nights. We have seen Banff Red Carpet Inn or Irwins Mountain Inn. Does anyone have any comments on either of these two places. Are one of these ok to stay in. Prices seem very high at other locations and these are the only two that are reasonable _ $150.00US per night.

check out http://www.bowview.com/
we stayed there over christmas in one of their "family rooms". we were happy with the choice. it's just a basic motel so don't expect much but the price was right and the location is good.

I'm new to the Canada board, but we stayed at the Rimrock in Banff...huge rooms with beautiful mountain views on two sides. It is also a spa, so you will be pampered. I would stay there again in a minute. Have a great time. Marcia in Northern Michigan

In another thread AMATTHE mentioned budget accommodation, so I don't think the Rimrock is going to cut it.
AMATTHE, I understand that Red Carpet and Irwin's are owned by the same people. I've had friends stay at Red Carpet, and they said it was fine. It was an older property, but they were given a clean and very spacious room.
My husband and I spent a night in Banff last June. Because Bow View Lodge (which ltt has just mentioned) had received favourable comments here at Fodor's, I gave it a try. What put me off about it was that they wanted a non-refundable payment for our room, although I was booking weeks in advance and although we were going to be staying in Banff in early June, before the main tourist rush. I said, "Thanks but no thanks."
We ended up staying at Homestead Inn. As I had read here and at TripAdvisor, the staff were indeed friendly, and the room was clean. Also, it was in a central location, it was reasonably priced by Banff's standards, it provided complimentary parking, and it was right next door to Melissa's and round the corner from Coyote's Grill, two of our favourite restaurants in Banff. Our room had a fridge in it, which could have been useful if we'd been staying there for longer.
A disadvantage was that the tour buses at the Banff Park Lodge, across the street, woke me up in the morning. Another thing that some people might consider to be a disadvantage, but that did not bother me, was the fact that the 3-storey building had no elevator. We were there during mild weather, but in case you happen to be there during a cold snap, you should be aware that it's a motel-style property, that is, you step from your room into a covered hallway with open sides.
A concern that I've heard about Homestead Inn from the point of view of overseas travellers is that neither the rooms nor the reception area have safe deposit boxes. However, that would not bother me, because I travel in Third World countries, and I always go overseas with a money belt and trousers and skirts that have secret pockets (pockets within pockets that are secured by zippers of Velcro strips).
