A great afternoon/evening Toronto?

We will have a half day and evening free on a Sunday in Toronto in June and we'll have a car.

What should we do and where should we eat?

If I had no advice, I would merely stroll the streets of Yorktown and shop and eat- any suggestions? We like ethnic.

Or is there some quintessential summer park experience we should go see/ hang out in?
We don't need an "attraction" just what regular people might do.
Thank you!

Hi,

It's Yorkville actually, and it's a nice place for a stroll. There are lots of places to eat, but one of my favourites is Cafe Nervosa. 75 Yorkville Ave., Tel: 416-961-4642. Italian food, reasonable prices, and patios both upstairs and down.
Bloor St. is right there too, and that's where most high-end (i.e. Chanel) shops are.
The newly renovated Gardiner Ceramic Museum is also close by, at the intersection of Bloor St. and Avenue Rd. All reviews so far have been stellar.
A stroll further south takes you to the University of Toronto with its extensive grounds and mix of architecture. If you keep walking south out of the university, you'll end up on College St. Heading west will take you to Spadina Rd. Going south from here you will be in Chinatown. If you keep going west on College St., you'll end up in Little Italy where there are patios and gelato. If the weather is good, it will seem like half the city is there.
Feel free to post any more questions.

Thanks for that. I knew it was York-something.

There's a big miulti-location, multi-discipline arts festival in early June. Try www.luminato.com

On othr weekends, there's usually some festival or other. Can you tell us what weekend, and also give us an idea of intrets.

If it was a nice weekend, I'd probably go for a long walk -- but there the walk would take me would depend on my interests.

Thanks. I will look into that.

We will be taking a long flight the next morning, so nothing too sedentary. An outdoor concert would be ideal, but no indoor shows or performances.

I like arts and crafts, neighborhoods. Just soaking up local culture.

Early June. Thank you again.

Check www.harbourfrontcentre.ca
There are often free outdoor concerts there.

There are festivals in Toronto just about every weekend in the summer. Try www.toronto.com. It's not the most fabulous website in the world but it will have at least some information.

When you get here, pick up a copy of NOW Magazine, free on just about every streetcorner. It's a great little entertainment newspaper and lists all sorts of events. It comes out every Thursday. Or check here: http://www.nowtoronto.com/issues/current/

Yorkville is OK, but I think the ethnic neighbourhoods are more interesting. You could go Greek on Danforth Avenue, Italian/Portuguese on College Street, Chinese on Spadina, Indian on Gerrard...and that's just a sample.

Hi - I grew up in Toronto but have lived about an hour away for years. But here are a few of the things that my husband and I drive in for a couple of summer weekend afternoons per year:
Harbourfront (Queen's Quay area) - An area to stroll along a picturesque piece of City waterfront, overlooking offshore islands, sailboats cruising the waters, several outdoor pubs and patios, an outdoor International Market, a casual International eating area (you said you like ethnic), a variety of shops (Queen's Quay Terminal), outdoor musicians performing, etc. On summer weekends (not sure about June) special events include various ethnic Festivals and outdoor music concerts.
Greektown on the Danforth - east of the downtown, several blocks of Danforth Avenue lined with mostly Greek (and a few other ethnic) restaurants and cafes, most with outdoor patios. Lots of people strolling.
The Beaches - east of downtown along the Lakefront. Long Beach lined with boardwalk and parks - lots and lots of people strolling, biking, etc. Nearby section of Queen Street East has shops, pubs, restaurants.
Finding parking can be a little challenging in some of these areas if the weather is nice (try to get there before noon). Also, Sunday evenings will be somewhat quiet, compared to, say Saturdays and Fridays. And shops tend to close around 5:00 on Sundays.

Maybe one of the walks offered by Heritage Toronto would interest you: http://www.heritagetoronto.org/progr...how?eventId=46

Thank you all very much!

Those all sound appealing and we will find something, certainly, given your great input.
