Tasty Indian food in Sydney?

Nearing departure time for the annual fishing trip on GBR. Hope the reddies are snapping!

Any fair dinkum Indian restaurants come recommended in Sydney?

Read about "Bill's" for brekkie....may give it a go.

Cheers!

As Sydney's a biggish town (LOL), it would help us help you with recommendations if you if you give some indication of location.

A couple that I like, on the North side, are Nilgiris at St. Leonards & the Rangoon Racquet Club at Crows Nest.

Location, location, locaton.....

I'll be staying with my wife at York Apartments downtown, but we'll have access to vehicles and love using the subway/trains around Sydney.

Regards,

Ardeis

Abhi's on Concord Road, North Strathfield always has great food, not the usual run-of-the-mill Indian.

There is a place on the Finger Wharf at Woolloomooloo, Aki's, run by the same people.

Breakfast at Bills is great - or so they tell me - I can never get past their scambled eggs and smoked salmon, but others talk of other things! Ricotta hotcakes get a regular mention.

Mmmmmm!

Hi ardeisfka. I live in Sydney and find this is the best site for restaurant recommendation http://www.eatability.com.au/au/sydney. I love Shenhai in Crows Nest for Indian. If you like Thai food, do yourself a favour and go to Longrain, in Surry Hills. It is a bit pricey but you wont get anything like it anywhere else. It is something quite special.

Indian Palace or Manjits in Balmain are both very good and reasonably priced.

Surjits is in Angel Place inthe city - it is quite good.
Bills isfantastic for corn fritters andpancakes - long line ups at the original Bills on the weekend but you may want to try it on week days.
Billy Kwongs run by Kylie Kwong is fantastic for dinner- not most comfortable but a wonderful experience - innovative Asian food.

Just have to chime in here. We were taken to this Indian restaurant, "Last Train to Bombay", by some friends who live in Sydney in the late 1990's. Long time ago and things may have changed but it ranked as one of my top restaurants ever then and now. I still sometimes tell people about the meal we had there, even in 2005! I checked out the review on Eatability http://www.eatability.com.au/au/sydn..._to_bombay.htm

and it looks like it is still in business and getting pretty good reviews (most people gave the food a 9 out of 10). I wouldn't know how to find it, but one of the reviews says it is "the best Indian restaurant on the Northern Beaches"

It is still open - nights only. 9973 1006. Easy to find, off Barrenjoey Road (main road heading North), just past Whale Beach Rd. There's also a "Last train to Bombay" in Manly.

Now that you mention it I think our friends took us to the one in Manly. I just did the search at Eatability and came up with the one in Avalon so assumed that was it. Is this a pair owned by the same people? I really do think the one we went to was in Manly.
