Hobart accommodation

I expect to be in Hobart for a few days at the end of October, & am now looking at accommodation options. Am looking at paying $150-$200 per night (bottom end obviously better) or even less. I'm not sure actually where to stay- I will not have a car & am interested in either the waterfront area or the CBD. I notice that this topic has been covered before but hope that Fodorites have some more up to date recommendations on where to stay, Or (more importantly) where not to stay. I will have 3 nights in Hobart & expect to visit MONA, Bruny Island, Salamanca market, plus general wandering around the area.

Thanks in advance Trotsky

We have stayed at the Customs House Hotel (a waterfront pub at Salamanca/Sullivans Cove) quite often. Rooms are comfortable, ensuite bathrooms etc, the pub is lively in the evenings, often has good local music. reasonable rates for the location.

I have stayed many times over many years at the Hotel Grand Chancellor . It has a great location as I never have a car. You can walk everywhere . It's always been a good standard.

My daughter and I stayed at the Hotel Grand Chancellor last year-the bus from the airport drops off right at the hotel.Ask for a harbor view as it is breathtaking. The hotel is very convenient for walking everywhere downtown.Check it out on booking.com and tripadvisor.
Be sure and visit the MURES restaurant across the street on the harbor-the downstairs is self serve and inexpensive for great fish and especially oysters while the upstairs of the restaurant is sit down/more elegant.

Thanks for all your replies.

huddoshols & duty free- I agree the Grand Chancellor is a good accommodation, having stayed there for a couple of conferences. Unfortunately there are no rooms available on my dates, so probably booked for another conference.

mareeS545- I have discovered a friend stayed at the Customs House last year & was quite happy with the accommodation. So it may well be where I stay.

dutyfree- Mures restaurant is definitely on the list.

Thank you all again
