Wanted - budget priced car hire - Brisbane area

Hi, can anyone recommend a budget priced car hire company to use in the Brisbane and Sunshine Coast area. I have researched the big companies, like Avis, Thrifty and Hertz and they want close to $900 for 15 days which seems a lot. We want a decent small sized car - doesn't have to be new just reliable. Any suggestions?
Thanks, Kay

Thanks, I'll check them out. Have also since found Come & Go Car Rental and Express Car Rentals - both local companies. Waiting on some quotes. Anyone used either of these for car hire?

Hi Kay. We just booked through Ideal Rental Cars. Their rates were very reasonable. We are paying about $450 USD for a mid size car for 14 days. You can find them on Google or email me at [email protected] and I'll pass on their contact info.

I don't know where you are planning to pick up the car, but it's considerably cheaper if you rent away from the BNE airport.

We actually took a cab from the airport to downtown to pick up a car and still saved significant $$$.

Thanks for the tip - I've noticed that the smaller car hire companies don't have an office at the airport, they pick you up and drive to their office. Some of the airport fees are quite substantial on the larger companies quotes. So far we've had a quote for about $600 from a smaller company, a saving of $300. Still waiting on other quotes, thanks to all for your help.

I just got the Brisbane Visitors Guide in the mail today.

Here are the listings for car rentals.

East Coast (Northgate & Fortitude Valley) 07 3266 8811 eastcoastcarrentals.com.au

Ideal Rental Cars (3 km from airport) 1800 065 172 idealrentalcars.com.au

Hawk (Level 3 Transit Centre - Roma St) 1800 004 295 hawkrentacar.com.au

Hope that helps.

Thank you everyone for so much info, very helpful! I have booked with Shoestring Express Rentals www.expressrentals.com.au
We have been quoted $608 for 15 days hire - Toyota Corolla or similar, no other extra costs to pay, though we could pay extra insurance if we wanted to bring down the excess. All the other quotes were more than this. They don't have an office at the airport but will pick you up, their office is close by.
