W Hotel
Anyone have any experiences with the W hotel in Sydney? Nothing seems to be posted about it.
If anyone knows anything about the view, ambiance, location, service it would be appreciated - planning on a Honeymoon in sydney.
Thanks

I have not stayed there but we did walk past it on our way to Harry's Cafe de Wheels which is right outside!
It's a little far from the main Sydney sights and the surrounding area is not that nice (compared to the harbours etc). I believe the design of the W is kind of trendy/industrial i.e. a little bit radical compared to your average hotel. This may not be appropriate for your honeymoon.
We stayed at the Westin for our honeymoon and were delighted with it:

Never stayed there, .....
W Hotel is on the harbour, dead trendy, has some good, expensive restaurants around it, and you can walk to Harry's Cafe de Wheels (now there's a contrast!)
But - it is away from every tourist destination, and is a long walk (or taxi / bus ride) into the city.
Depends on what you want to do / see???

Long walk into the city!?!?! I live 3 doors away from the W...it is a 5 to 10 minute stroll through the Botanic Gardens to the city. It is a BEAUTIFUL walk, you can go up around Mrs. Macquarie's point.
Is it in the centre of the CBD...no. But to me that's a good thing!

W hotels are part of the Sheraton chain.
Not familiar with the one in Sydney, but the W rooms are not known to be large. Enough room for a Queen bed and a side chair and night stand. That's about what I've seen in any W I've visited or friends have stayed. Too small.
There have got to be other hotels closer to the tourist areas probably at the same price range - but larger rooms.

Actually it comes under the Starwood unbrella, as does the Sheraton brand. You can see some photos of the Sydney W here

re: distance: We did the walk for the Opera House to W, and it felt like a long-ish walk (20mins I would guess at least) but then if you're a local I guess you will know the shortest and quickest way. The areas outside the hotel (the quayside and the streets) were not that appealing to us either.
