Traveler tries to smuggle cat into NZ in her handbag
She declared her dirty boots, but not the cat in her handbag, flouting NZ's strict biosecurity laws.

Watched this in amazement -
1. how did no one on the plane notice? Hard to keep a cat quiet and contained for 10 hours.
2. why do people think this is okay? Like those TV customs programmes they assume the laws do not apply to them.

On our first trip to NZ we declared everything - apart from a small plastic pot of honey. My wife was taken to a room by customs and given a stern talking to and a written warning! Another guy on the same flight took his Qantas provided banana and was given the same treatment AND a $200 fine! I am surprised this woman just got off with being sent home.

I'm angry for the cat's sake! Being confined in a small handbag for a 14-hour flight and then having to go back (presumably now in a proper container) another 14 hours. That's animal cruelty.
I imagine she drugged the cat to keep it quiet. Surely the cat must have peed himself, or worse.
