TomTom GPS work in New Zealand rental Car?
We will be doing a self-drive tour of NI & SI of New Zealand and renting a car from Jucy.com. Will the TomTom XXL GPS from US work in the New Zealand car by plugging in the cigarett lighter?
Thanks

We just used our Tom Tom on an Avis rental for the past two and a half weeks throughout the North and South Islands-no problems.Just make sure that if you don't have the New Zealand program in it that you download it before you go.

You will just have to check that the New Zealand maps are loaded into your Tom Tom. If you're not sure you can always hire one from Jucy. They are quite cheap. I don't know the exact price, from Jucy. We hired a car from Snap Rentals (www.snaprentals.co.nz) and it cost only $2.50 per day, which we thought was good.

We travelled for a month in rental cars in the North and campers in the south in NZ. Before we left Canada I downloaded maps of NZ onto my TOMTOM, cost was about 35Euros ( I think). No problem, the TOMTOM worked like a charm, directions were clear and it made our trip a lot easier. Our friends felt they didn't need a GPS, but then decided to rent one from the car rental agency but they were all out, so rented one from the Tourist Bureau in Auckland. This was a super hassle, the first one didn't work, then the second one switched languages on them from English to German (actually this was quite funny and a mini course in German was a by-product.) The cost to rent from the car agency (s)is prohibitive so get yourself setup ahead and you will enjoy the trip.
