Is having GPS worthwhile in New Zealand?
My husband and I are wondering if we should buy GPS for our upcoming trip to NZ? I read another thread here where someone found some GPS maps for NZ on Ebay, which I see are still being sold. We don't currently have a GPS so we'd have to buy/borrow one, increasing the $$.
My husband said he found GPS for his iPhone, but we'd need a car charger for the iPhone... Is that something we can buy here? I assume the car chargers that work for US cars would work for NZ cars... Or, should we just depend on the "tried and true" paper map. DH is an excellent navigator...

We've done 3 driving trips in New Zealand and never found the need for a GPS. A good map, especially with a good navigator, is all you should need. We found the roads well signposted and the driving very straightforward. (Besides, if you get lost for awhile, who knows what gem you'll run across?)

We had a GPS with us, because my DH owns a portable one with a map for NZ. While we didn't need it to keep from getting lost, it came in quite handy when we wanted to find the nearest restaurants, grocery stores, hotels or petrol stations by hitting the points of interest button. That being said, if you don't already own one, you don't absolutely need it. BTW, he downloaded the NZ map for free online.
