"Has anyone else noticed a correlation between tipping and countries that don't have socialized health care?"
Interesting observation, christycruz, although the connection is a bit hard to tease out. But other than the US, is there any well-off western nation that doesn't have some form of socialised health care? I can't think of any.
A couple of exceptions: in China nobody (apart from the odd tourist) tips, but there's no socialised health care. And Canadians tend to tip at American levels, but they have universal health care.
The US is also the only advanced western nation that still executes criminals. Maybe there's a connection there, but I'm struggling to find it.
