I have one day allocated for a wine tour, which city offers the better tour? Any suggestions on good company to choose would also help. Thank you

We really enjoy extras included in tour: Cheese, lunch, tea.. Ect.

I'm biased so would obviously have to say Melbourne.

Adelaide would probably be best, as it has more wine regions but given your choices, I'd vote for Melbourne and the Yarra Valley. Have coffee and and a cheese platter at the Yarra Valley Dairy. Go to Domaine Chandon, do the self-guided tour (bearing in mind there really is never very much to actually see in a winery) and then try one of the tasting flights of their sparkling wines. Move on to TarraWarra and tour their art museum. Have lunch there, or at De Bortoli or perhaps Tokar Estate or, better yet, Yering Station. If the more formal Wine Bar Restaurant lunch at Yering is not what you want, try Matt's Bar above the cellar door.

As for a "tour", I wouldn't. Just rent a car (it's an hour's drive) and do your own thing. Decide who's driving and who's imbibing before you start and take your time ....

The Mornington Peninsula in Victoria is a good day trip as well, great cool climate wines,Cherry farms, strawberry farms,a cheese place and the Red Hill Brewery so many places to eat and beautiful coastal scenery. That would be my pick.

Melbourne as they are closer to the capital.
I live on the Mornington Peninsula and seems there is a winery every few kilometres.
Either Yarra Valley or here is fine, there are oodles of them, find the best deal and go with that. I would also (if I were you) start to look at Scoopon and similar daily deal web sites for package deals at half price, have often seen them.

Melbourne certainly has probably the easiest access to wineries. But then it probably does depend on what sort of wine you're seeking out. Stand out wines close to Melbourne are often Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. If you're just after the winery 'culture', Yarra Valley and Mornington Peninsula (both within 90mins of Melbourne) have literally dozens of wineries, most with restaurants. Many day tour operators will pick you up from a Melbourne city hotel and take you to several wineries which is often well worth doing, without the hassle of hiring a car and navigating yourself.
Agree with previous suggestion of visiting Domaine Chandon and I would also suggest Chateau Yering.

I love the Southern Highlands of NSW - just 1.5hrs south of Sydney.

I like the southern highlands too, but my vote would go to Melbourne.

Yarra Valley, Mornington Peninsula both within easy access and a good range of wineries & wines.

De Bortolis winery In Yarra Valley has a restaurant and a cheese cellar/room as well.
